Contact Lens Wearers...I need help!!!

Ok, so tonight I went for contacts. I've been wearing glasses for about 4-5 years now. I want the contacts for the wedding and also to wear when I go out, go to parties, etc. etc.

It took about an hour at the doctors office for me to get them in and out...and then they made me wear them home to practice...I begged them not to make me do this...

So, anyway, I get home and after about 10 mins I got them out...then I was doing my homework and trying to practice getting them back in. I got one eye...but after about 30 mins, I had to give up and then threw them out (they're the disposable ones). They kept sticking to my fingers...and folding...AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH...I just gave up after it fell to the floor!!!!!

Just gotta relax. It takes a while to get used to them. I have had contacts for 6 years and I still have problems on some days. Some days it can take me 2 minutes while other days it will take me 15 minutes.

It just takes some time, practice, and patience. Dont worry you'll get it

I know...I know...patience, I do need some of that...I just don't have any for certain things. I also don't know how to relax sometimes...I'm a mess!!!

Yes definitely try to be patient with them! When I first started wearing them( I have had them for about 10 years) I was an absolute mess! It sounds dumb, but just touching my eyeball skeeved me out! It probably took me about 6 months to get the hang of them! (no joke) Try to relax though.....it really helps! And, of course, practice!

It took me a while too. And it was my third attempt at switching to lens was I able to get it.

The tech at the eyeglass place told me to hold my lids open with one hand and look up and away from where I was putting the lens, touch the lens to my eye, then look left and right until it settled into place.

This technique seemed to work for me although it took a few weeks to get the hang of it.

Good luck!

I can relate- I tried probably my last pair 2 nights ago and it took me a while to get them in. I can't wear them so I won't have to deal with this (although I wish I could) but I held my eye open with one hand and put the contact in with the other. I kinda looked to the side but not at the contact. Keep trying and just take a deep breath- I know how frustrating it is!!!!!!

one eye has astigmatism and its a bit thicker so it is super easy to get in...but the other is flimbsy...and if I get frustrated...the longer it takes...

what helps me is if my finger is really dry!!! but you don't want to dry it on any cloth b/c then the fibers can get in your eye...so I wipe the solution from my fingers on my skin...and it usually works...

you need to get used to touching your eye...I don't really remember when I first got contacts...but it will become second nature

just wanted to add that i use my middle finger from my left hand and ring finger from my right hand to keep the eye open...then the middle finger form my right hand to stick the contact in...

I have had contacts since 8th grade - so hmmm about 15 years or so.

It takes a while to really get comfortable putting them in - when I first got them it took me about 30 mins every time for a while!

Just don't rush when you want to put them in - leave yourself extra time in case you have a problem.

Good luck eventually you will not want to wear your glass anymore - it is so much easier to drive with contacts!

I found if I got frustrated and I put it aside for an hour they would go in easier later when I relaxed again.

I agree with all. YOu will LOVE them when you get used to them. It;s a matter of finding the way you are comfortable with them. I never wear my glasses in public and barely around my DH. To me, contacts are the greatest invention. Best of luck. You will get used to them soon and love them.

If they were folding, they were probably inside out. I know as an attempted contact lens wearer this probably doesnt mean much but when you try again - if I have trouble with mine, I drench them with more solution in the palm of my hand and if they curl up, the are in the rightside out. If they fold flat in half, they are inside out and they are near impossible to put in and if they are put in, they're uncomfortable.

But their worth it IMO. I switch off between contacts and glasses depending on what Im in the mood for.

Took me a while to get used to.

Recently I switched brnds from acuvue to bausche and lomb and they are thicker and easier to get in than the acuvues.

You'll get the hang of it

I have had contacts since 6th grade...

Here's the trick. You'll learn fast when they are inside out. You should be able to see (when right side out) like a flat edge around the lens. If it's not like that, it's inside out, and will not only be almost impossible to get to adhere to your eye, it will hurt if it gets in there. But not pain hurt. Just like kind of uncomfy. You'll know it when you feel it.

Also - make sure it's not too wet when trying to put it in. Sometimes if your finger is too wet or the lens, they will fold a lot easier. I have found a dry finger is the key and you need to place the lens on the tip of your finger. Don't try to put it in with too much surface area beneath the lens. It should be delicately balanced on the tip there so it just jumps right on your eye.

This takes practice. Don't give up - before you know it you'll be popping them in and out like a pro -

I got them in ninth grade & they wouldn't let me leave the dr. office until I put them in and out three times!! I swear my mom and I were there for like 2 hours!! But I got used to it after a month or so and they are the best thing since sliced bread! LOL just be patient and try to figure out the best way for you--when I first got them I would use a mirror to guide my hand--after awhile though you'll be able to just stick them in! GOOD LUCK!

I've been wearing contacts for over a year and I can relate to your story. The first time I tried to put them in (at the doctor's office), I couldn't do it and got so frustrated that I began to cry. Needless to saying, crying makes it harder to get your contacts out. It is frustrating in the beginning, but it does take practice and patience (two words I'm sure you're sick of hearing at this point). I also got contacts because of my wedding and it is so worth it. Just take a deep breath and if it doesn't work out at this minute, do it later in the day. You will get it in time.

i've been wearing contacts for quite some time now.....and you have to make sure you take your time and not get frustrated.
i wasn't allowed to bring them home from the eye doctor until i could put them in and take them out on my own - so i had to go back 3 times before i could bring them home. and one time i turned green and almost passed out.
but now, i hardly even think of it!
you'll get used to it!
good luck!!!

Some really good advice someone gave me:

Always put the same side contact in first, that way you will never mix up the lenses. I always do my right and then my left.
