Contact Lenses....

Original post by autumnbride10

I wear glasses for distance, and was thinking about doing contacts for the day of, so that I can actually SEE FH's expression as I walk down the aisle. I don't have vision on my plan, and I called Pearle and Lenscrafters, and both quoted over $100 for the eye exam and then $20-$30 for a box of lenses. My boss told me I could get a 'trial pair'....how long do those last for, and how long does it really take to 'get used to them?' I have astigmatism too, but they make contacts for that now too...right?

You do NOT need a membership to go for the exam at Costco! I did exactly what you're looking to do before my wedding... You can have your exam for contacts for $80 and you get FREE trial lenses to try.. if you don't like them, they'll give you another brand of FREE trials, etc... even gave me free fluid and case... all I paid was $80! If you decide to continue to wear them after the wedding and purchase more, then you can go with anyone and use their membership to purchase. I recommend Dr. Baltis at Commack 631-462-8562. BTW, when you first walk in and and they look for your card, just tell them your there for an eye appt and they let you in

If you want to go there, call and make your appt asap, you'll want to wear them for at least a week or 2 before the wedding to get used to them!

Edit.. forgot I have astigmatism too... they had lenses for me

That's GREAT! Thanks for the info. SO you did the same thing? Just got them for the wedding?

Dr. Baltis doesn't have any appts. that can fit my schedule...are all the doctors there good? Or should I only use him?

I wouldn't worry about that - I'm sure they are all good. They're still doctors

I did not want to wear my glasses down the aisle, so last yr i went to the eye doctor and got contacts so i could get used to them. I never had trouble getting them in or out but i did have trouble keeping them in for long periods of time in the beginning. I am glad i did it early bc the wedding is a long day start to finish so now i am prepared to wear them all day and night. I used Dr. Schoenbart in East Meadow. Great guy!

make sure you get them asap so you have time to get used to them. Samples are good for as long as the contact is supposed to be for (some are 1 day lenses, some are 1 week, most are one month). Plus after you begin to wear them, you may not want to go back to glasses!

Thanks. I'll look into getting them soon!
But I only wear my glasses for distance, I don't need them for the computer or reading, so I have no choice but to stick with glasses...

I actually did this. I have VSP? I think it is through work so I was able to get an exam and the lenses a 90 day supply of one a days for 45 bucks! I hate wearing them though, I am wearing them now to try to get use to them otherwise I wouldn't be able to see FH when I was walking down the aisle. When I wear them at work I get headaches when I am not here they are fine I think it is because I am staring at the computer all day long.
