contacts

So I am thinking about getting contacts. I am near sited and now I pretty much wear my glasses all the time. I don't want to wear glasses on my wedding day but want to see my guests clearly, and I don't want to worry about losing them in Hawaii and being unable to see normally. But the last time I tried contacts (about 7 years ago) one got stuck up in my eyelid. After the doctor swore tit wasn't in my eyes and that my eye was just irritated, my mom put stuff in my eyes to make me tear and sure enough out came the non existent contact. So I am afraid to do it.

Should I try it?

Re: contacts

I would try again but I would use a different eye doctor. I have really dry, sensitive eyes and for years I had difficulty with contacts- Now I use biofinity contacts by coopervision they are awesome!!

Re: contacts

I feel like the eye guru tonight, but god only knows I have enough problems with them, so I consider myself an expert.

Contact use is 100% mental. You have to want them to be able to wear them, if that makes any sense.

I went for them in the 7th grade, and was so afraid to touch my eye, that I couldn't put them in. I actually went after school for 'lessons' for about 3 weeks, and could not put them in. I just didn't want them bad enough.

Well that changed really fast 2 years later when it was time for me to start HS, and I was like damned if I'm wearing glasses, and sure enough, I put those suckers in.

I would recommend going back for a lesson yourself, and trying to put them in. If you really want them, you'll find a way to get them in.

Also, that happened to me once too, but it took over a week to come down, it went behind my eye or something I don't even know. I thought I lost the contact on the sink or something, so put in a new lens, and one night took my contact out, and then saw the other in the corner, and was like wait, i thought I took this eye out already....OH MY GOD!!!!! So I can totally see how you would never want to wear them again

Re: contacts

I just got contacts for the first time (after 10 years of glasses -- I didn't get glasses until college) about a month ago for this EXACT reason. I didn't want glasses dating me in my wedding photos (not that they won't look dated anyway from the dress and hair styles and stuff, but because I didn't want to look totally goofy) and I'm so sick of rain and mist making me miserable and blind.

So I went for it. I'm actually far sighted with astigmatism so my contacts aren't the daily disposables. They're a little harder to deal with, but I'm managing! People at first were really, really against them. Everyone said they like me so much better in glasses (which actually was kinda hurtful, if you think about it) but I'm persevering and wearing them nearly every day now.

It takes some getting used to putting them in every day and I still have trouble with the left one, but it's fun being able to actually wear real sun glasses!

Good luck and let us know if you have any questions with the process!

I would go for it...It cant hurt to try again. There are SO many new lense options out there for you to try...everything from dailies to astigmatism to bifocal lenses to new mutifocal lenses that came out a few weeks ago.
I have worked for a contact lense practitioner in seaford since i was 15 (8 years and counting...) so i am REALLY familiar with contact lenses. If you have any questions about contacts just let me know and i will be happy to answer them for you!!

Re: contacts

I wear glasses most of the time and got contacts sometime back in Jan. I just wear them on the weekends. I wanted to start using them so I could get adjusted in time for my wedding. There is no way I'm gonna wear glasses and if I don't I want to be able to see everything clearly that day.

I was hesitant at first and it took me what seemed like forever to get them in and out at the doctors office but honestly it wasn't that bad. Plus the doctor said I did quite well which was very encouraging. I had never worn contacts prior to getting these.

I say try them out, what do you have to lose?

Re: contacts

I had contacts starting my freshman year of college ('98-'99). . .stopped wearing them about two years ago once I got REALLY sick of having them dry out on me in the middle of teaching. Thank you, chalk dust and rosin dust constantly flying up into my eyes! I think I'm going to take off my glasses for the ceremony OR wear contacts just for the ceremony. During the reception, I DEFINITELY want my glasses on.

I'm too scared of needles and doctor things to get lasik done, even though my sister's DH got it done and he swears by it.

Re: contacts

def try again.. contacts have come a long way from 7 years ago... when i first wore contacts (about 4 years ago) i had to stop because they kept popping out because I have such horrible year round allergies.. well about a year ago I started getting the allergy shots and have been alot better so I got new contacts the Acuve ones that are good for allergies and they are awesome.. havent had a problem since.. It probably got stuck cause you had dry eyes or allergies

Re: contacts

I've been wearing contacts since I was 12...that's 17 years. I'd totally recommend getting them! I hate the feeling of anything on my face, which includes glasses.

If the lense got stuck up in your eye, it was either dry or a very thin lense. Sometimes you just have to keep trying different types until you find one good for you. I'd try seeing a different dr.

yes, these are the best contacts... my eyes never get dry and the contacts never freeze up.... they are made of something that helps pass more oxygen through

Def go for it! I love my contacts. I see 100% better with them then I do with my glasses.

I had problems at first when I got mine back in HS but the lenses have come a long way since then.

Good Luck!

I would recommend lasik after your kids. Only because your eye sight can change dramatically with pregnancy. I was actually thinking about it this morning while getting ready b/c I want lasik soooo badly...

ITA. I had trouble with contacts bothering my eyes or just popping out randomly from my eyes getting so dry. These contacts are wonderful!
