Re: Controversial Topic
DH makes a a significant amount more than I but when it comes to financial decisions and managing our money it is definitely a joint decision. When it is very financial (like the mortgage and stuff) I do look to him more for making decisions only because he undersatnds the concepts better than I (he is an finance person - I am the computer person) and I trust his judgement. But as far as purchases - neither of us dictate our budget/ spending and decisions are made jointly.
We both have good jobs and both make pretty decent salaries so we don't struggle with who make more than the other. I do find it hard to say his salary is ours for some reason...I guess it is getting use to it. I currently pay all my bills and household expenses from my own personal checking account - on my own salary. I guess that is the independent side of me. As our bills and finances change with the purchase of the house we will have to adjust our way of doing things though.
What I found funny is recently our friends were talking about how we spend and who manages it - very smilar to this topic. All my friends seemed shocked that I currently pay the rent and all the bills. I guess many look to the males to manage finances and bills (even though most of the female members of the groups have very good salaries and in the financial fields). I was surprised to hear how many females want to be un-involved in this. To me it seemed so stereo-typical esp. coming from independent business woman. I guess to each their own.

Our salaries are similar.
This is a partnership- 50/50.

Re: Controversial Topic
I make more $$ than DH and I take care of finances. If it is something major, we decide together. However, in general, I make most decisions. It's not because I am controlling (OK, maybe a little), but DH is too lazy to get involved in all that (mind you, he is a banker!!!!!!)

Re: Controversial Topic
He makes about double what I do and we share all money decisons equally. We both know exactly what is in each account and what bills we have. Of course we don't discuss every little purchase but we have a rule if it costs more than $200 we need to talk about it first.

I make more than my FH, and we make all financial decisons together, we do not have a joint checking accounts yet, but we are building a house and we ahve ade all decisons regarding the house together, and everything has been 50/50. All other money issues are dealt with together, even if he is using his money on it, or I am using my money on it.

Re: Controversial Topic
I make more money but he handles the paying the bills. I have always hated that job. We discuss finacial decisions and both have a say in it. I never say 'Well I make more so I win'. That would be very unfair.

Re: Controversial Topic
I don't work so FH makes all the money in the household. He's never made me feel that he 'dominaes' the household.
In terms of finance, he's just more responsible so he's in charge of paying the bills and that sort of thing, but he puts no restrictions on my spending. If I want something I buy it. I try to be responsible enough now to not be frivolous because in my head it's still HIS money, even though he says it's OURS. He'll always consult me on his own big purchases or 'toys' that he wants although I trust that he always knows what's in the bank and what he can afford.
I guess noone really 'dominates' the househould decisions. He's just in charge of some of the bigger things because he's more responsible and because in general, he knows more about certain things. I'm in charge of other decisions, like how the house should be decorated, what's for dinner, that sort of thing

Re: Controversial Topic
I make more $ & yes I do dominate most of our household decisions, but that would be true even if he made all the money. I am a detailed person, so I take care of all our expenses & budget us, all I do is have fairly regular household updates with FH to keep him informed & just does what I say (well 99% of the time, LOL).

He makes alot more than me, and it all goes into 'our' joint account. We make the decisions together.

Re: Controversial Topic
Dh makes more than I do ... significantly more. I manage all the money and pay all the bills etc. We basically make all the decisions together - but I am more levelheaded when it comes to saving so I have to keep him under wraps!

Re: Controversial Topic
DH makes more, but we have pooled all our money and assets so it's ours. We buy whatever we want without consulting one another unless it's a big purchase. I am the financial person so I do all the bills and make most of the investing decisions.

Re: Controversial Topic
Before taxes I make more $$$ than he does. But after taxes, he does. I dont feel that whoever makes more $$ should have the say. You are a married couple, and we make decisons together. If we dont agree, then we come to a medium, so we can compromise. That is what make s a couple, you need to do things together.
