Who makes more money and with that does that mean they should be the one who dominates the decisions in the household?
What does everyone think?

Re: Controversial Topic
My FH makes more money than me but neither of us feel that one should dominate the decisions more than the other. We're an equal partnership - what's mine is his and his is mine. I don't think someone's higher salary should make them superior to the one with the lesser salary.
What do you think?

Re: Controversial Topic
my husband makes more than me but we both make decisions about spending the money. We have one joint checking account and all of our money goes in there. We each get an allowance each paycheck (for lunches and whatnot) but everything else gets paid from the joint account.
Harry and never once said to me that because he makes more money than I do will he make all the choices. Im really glad about that because that would drive me crazy!!

Re: Controversial Topic
I am happy to hear that things are so equal ..
I got this in an email from one of my co-workers and some of the responses floored ME.
So I wanted to see whatever thought!!!!

He makes more than me but we consider it as ours. Though I am the one who knows what we can and cannot spend, also I sit down to pay all the bills.

Re: Controversial Topic
Right now he makes a lot more than me but, as of next year (when we will be married) I will be making almost double what he is making and to be honest, I have been wondering this myself...am I going to have to pay for more of our bills etc? He is going to be starting business school in a few years...am I going to be expected to pay for this? He says no but I still wonder. Plus, I wonder, what kind of effect will this have on him? He says he doesn't care but...who knows?

FH makes more then me. I work two jobs to 'attempt' to pull my weight but he doesn't even want me to have my second job. We are very responsible when it comes to $$$$ decisions and we make them equally!!

Re: Controversial Topic
I make slightly more than FH but I don't believe that the one with the money should have all the power. I believe it should be a equal partnership. When you let money govern, you're heading for trouble IMO. I've seen a few marriages get ruined because of a power struggle over money.

Re: Controversial Topic
FH makes more $$ and hell no, we both have to be in on decsions.
I think it should be equal. And its not about what I make, or you make. Its what we make.
Unless of course I was the bread winner, Id put his arse on a budget. LOL

Re: Controversial Topic
DH makes more than me, but I'm about to quit my job and stay home. Either way, I don't think it will change things about major decisions. We always discuss decisions before making them. I don't think the amount someone earns gives him/her more power to make a decision that affects both partners.

T, this sounds like a 'Tom Laikis' discussion from that radio talk show for guys...
I think marriage is an equal partnerships, and $ should not be a factor

Re: Controversial Topic
He makes more than 3 times what i do
However it is OUR money, even if I were to make more it's OURS.
We both make decisions together, neither one of us would want to 'dominate' the househould

Who makes more money and decision making do not have anything to do with each other at our house.

Re: Controversial Topic
Jenn, you won't believe it, but one of our groomsmen actually believes in this theories/logic and thinks they're correct. Lenny and I tried to convince him otherwise, and he hasn't budged yet. Perhaps that's why he is still single

Re: Controversial Topic
DH makes more than me. But when he cashes his check he hands it all right over to me. I look at our financial situation, pay all the bills and then when I determine how much is extra we spend that togehter! Its a comprimise

Re: Controversial Topic
He makes more, but not THAT much more. Our combined income is probably 55% him and 45% me. He makes most of the money decisions because 1) I am a terrible money manager 2) he knows what he is talking about (ask me if I know what an interest rate is and what it does - ok, I know it's the interest charged on loans etc), or ask me if I know how a mortgage works and I'll laugh at you. I am incredibly naive when it comes to money and I hate paying bills so he is in charge, but not because he makes more money.
