Re: Converting to GAS?!?

I have had both - oil in my house growing up and gas in my house now - i like the gas b/c it is cleaner but i think now oil is cheaper every month. But if i had a choice, i would want gas, especially with stove.

We probably won't have gas, but I definately would prefer a gas stove...if you cook, they are MUCH better.

We just signed up to convert to gas on the house we're buying. We heard about the promotion available through Keyspan, but don't qualify as you have to have gas in your house already (for a stove for example) to get the $599 burner deal. In our case, it is on our street, but we have to have it brought into the house.

We're getting a new oil burner, 40 gallon hot water tank, line for a gas stove and a radiator in the bathroom, because there isn't one for $6,500. That includes the contractor getting the permits and removing the oil tank, old burner etc. Most companies will give you a free estimate. Also, you can go online to Keyspan and get a quote from one of their contractors.

Re: Converting to GAS?!?

Thanks for your advice ladies - I really wanted to convert to gas because I really prefer cooking on it and since we need a new oil burner I figured it would balance out financially - but there is only gas 300feet from our house - it needs to be within 100 feet or they won't even dig the line I am soo upset

I prefer a gas stove for cooking. It is more efficent & easier to control the temperature when you cook. I also prefer gas heat.

We have an oil burner for heat, but we also have a gas stove. You can have both!
