Cookbook?

Cookbook?

OK girls, I need help! Besides things that require no more effort than boiling water or setting the microwave, I've never cooked a thing in my life. I've got it in my head that I'm going to cook FH dinner for his birthday (well, the day before since we'll be out celebrating the next night). I think I'm probably biting off more than I can chew, but I'm gonna go for it! I don't even know what I'll make yet. Can you girls recommend a good cook book for someone who's a total beginner and never cooked a day in her life?
TIA

Re: Cookbook?

Any of the Rachel Ray cook books have pretty easy stuff in them. I would take a lot at foodnetwork.com for some ideas...

Definitely Rachel Ray cookbooks. Especially her 30 Minute Meals ones. Very easy, and healthy, for the most part.

Re: Cookbook?

I'm partial to the Sandra Lee Semi-Homemade series...I think that might be good for you, because nothing is made completely from scratch, so it kind of eases you in to things...what kind of dish were you thinking of making?

I got such a nice one from my friend - it is the William Sonoma - Bride and Groom cookbook :)

Get the Joy of Cooking. It explains everything in simple terms. You can look up all the different cooking terms and it tells you how to do them. I looked up how to saute mushrooms, before that I wasn't even sure what saute meant. They came out great and now I do it all the time.
