coop vs house

coop vs house

has anyone chosen a coop over a house? we could get a small house for what we would pay for a coop but do you think its better to start with a coop/condo first? the only big + with condo/coop is that pretty much if anything goes wrong we dont have to foot the bill

we are considering both but with coop maintenance fees - it would probably cost more than the mortgage on a starter home ...

we are also thinking about NC - building new priced just right and we can own a 4bedroom 3 bath house for what a 1 bedroom coop costs on LI!

We just got one step closer to our own co-op!!!!!! We chose it for the reasons you stated: we don't have to deal with the outside. And with a baby coming, we want as little as possible to deal with. Since our schedules are ever-changing, we were nervous about having someone living below or above us, but we found 1 floor co-ops. Quiet community. Yes, the common charges stink, but they typically include so much!

We were looking in Suffolk County, around the Brookhaven area. We looked at homes, condos, co-ops and cardboard boxes. Let me know if you have any specific questions about that area.
