Coordinator bailing out but wants DJ to coordinate!

Major Issue Here! (before you start sorry for being sooooo long!!!!)

I have a coordinator I've been using for months now she's really my assigned coordinator through my hall. Anyway, she called me today to let me know that on my wedding date she has to participate at some Bridal Estravaganza and that she's the only one who could go and represent the hall. So she won't be there to help out with the ceremony/setup but she'll be there before the reception is over (I was dissapointed because I've been dealing with her all along and got attached...but okay) then she tells me the person whose going to stand in her place is my DJ!!!! *** ?!?!?! I've never heard of this! She tried to assure me he's done this before when no coordinators were available and he knows the organization of the ceremony. I told her I don't know about that...not being sexist because he's a guy but he's playing my ceremony music etc then how is he going to be helping me elsewhere? Anyway, I have a meeting with her first thing but I'm figuring I don't have a choice but to say okay...the contract has been signed and I'm paid in full. Has anyone ever heard of anything like this???? How important is having a coordinator that day???? (sorry so Long)

I don't want to stir things up for you... but having a coordinator that day is very important. Are you at least having a bridal attendant? A DJ certainly can't tend to you when he has another job to do.

I have to say that if you are getting married at the hall a coordinator is huge! There will be no rehearsal so having one will make your life easier....though I dont think it should be the DJ

I would be so mad! You really should have a coordinator, and for her to bail right now is not right...
I would find out if the hall can assign someone new to be your coordinator that day. Actually, I would INSIST that they do.

I agree that this is nonsense. The DJ has his own job and shouldn't be coordinating and your DOC bailing is pretty unprofessional. You should speak with the manager of the catering hall, and check your contract to see if there isn't some clause allowing the hall to pull this stunt.

can you kick her azz? 'cause that's what I would do! but if you signed a contract with her locking in your wedding date for her to coordinate... then she is legally binded to that contract. It's not your problem nor your business with regards to her Bridal Extravaganza... I could understand if she had a family emergency or a death in the family.. but her excuse is lame! get your money back in full and look for another DOC. Cut your losses now instead of on your big day.

That is so weird. Does your DJ even know about this? WHat if he doesn't want to coordinate? I would speak to the BM and get someone else assigned to me.

DOn't you have a matire'd - its usually the job of the maitre'd to coordinate things at the hall. I don't understand where the DJ fits in to all this.

you need to raise a stink about this. you signed a contract that brought along someone to help you out and that is what you should DEMAND. it doesn't matter what their 'title' is, but you need someone who will be 'all about you' on that day. they need to find someone, NOW.
