Has anyone heard anything about or been to a wedding here? A friend at work said she just went to a wedding there recently and that it was horrible - said the bathrooms were gross, the food was bad and it was just not a nice place. Now I'm worried, because my favorite cousin is planning her wedding there, and I don't want her to be disappointed. Help!

Re: Coral House
I'm having my wedding there too.. So far I have a good feeling about the place (anybody having theirs there before Aug. please let me know how it went)
Bear in mind, although we love the people we are inviting to our weddings, some of them also may not be the best behaved, so if someone complained about a place they went being 'messy' in the restrooms, then it could very well have been a guests fault. (Hey, some of my FH's guest list are not the... ah... neatest people I know )
I wouldn't be overly concerned. Although something somewhere may go wrong on your cousin's big day, I don't think it will be the catastrophe you're envisioning.

Re: Coral House
OK my wedding is going to be there in September and when I saw your post my heart skipped a beat! It is in NO WAY seedy..... and just because some individuals may not have had the best experience .....doesn't mean that's the absolute truth! I'm sure there's been a few bad things said about every hall on this board. Every person has a different experience. And I didn't see any garbage floating around, the lake is beautiful and it' one of the reasons I chose the CH. The food was delicious and the bathrooms were clean. For a place whose customers are spending thousands to have a 5 or 6 hour party there, trust me, you won't be partying in a seedy dump! You will have to check it out to see for yourself.

Re: Coral House
Well I am getting married there next February....
As far as the food goes...yummy!! I know everyone has different taste in food but I happened to love it
The place looking seedy?! NO WAY!!! The place is absolutely gorgeous in my opinion. Everyone is entitled to their opinion of course. I am very picky when it comes to choosing things...if the place looked like a mess I would have never chose the Coral House to begin with.
The pond is beautiful....a bottle getting in it?! Ok I guess that could happen by accident. I am sure the Coral House takes care of the grounds and will clean the pond up.
Minnie if your cousin has any concerns I am sure the staff at the Coral House can help her.

Re: Coral House
FH's cousin was married there last July. They had the large room (Americana?) with the cocktail hour up on the terrace. Everything was great! The main room was just gorgeous. Really got that 'wow' feeling when we walked through the doors and saw the beautiful windows. The service was terrific also - I had a horrible sore throat that was getting worse by the minute during the reception. All I could eat was half of the twice baked potato (and it was really good) - anyway, 2 different servers came by to ask me if my food was OK - when I told them why I wasn't eating they even made a bunch of suggestions about other food they could bring me. How nice was that!
The only thing I didn't like was that while we were outside taking pictures another couple was having their ceremony about 30 feet away. I kept 'shushing' our group cause I felt terrible for the wedding. But that won't affect you if you're not getting married there. And the pictures came out lovely. Jenn's right -- a good photographer can make it work.
Jennbaby - It's all about the details and you've worked so hard to make this your perfect day. I guarantee yours will be the most beautiful wedding the Coral House has ever hosted. Can't wait to hear YOUR guests' reviews next week!

Re: Coral House
We had looked there when we were looking for our reception hall. We tried the food and it was delicious. We thought the place was really nice with the beautiful view of the lake. The reason we didn't choose the place is because the room they offered us was too small for the amount of people we were having. I'm sure you won't be disappointed.

Re: Coral House
I had my wedding there in December and the food, service and appearance of the hall was perfect. We still are getting compliments on how great the food was and how attentive the staff was to our guests. During the reception I used the bathrooms on the main floor (instead of going back to the bridal sweet), and there were no problems at all with them. None of them were messy at all. The Coral House is a wonderful hall with a great staff and awesome food. Of coarse the decor may not be to everyones taste (as is the case with all halls), but we loved it from when we walked in the door the first time. (And I must say, the way they decorate for the holidays was so beautiful). Anyone having their wedding there should not be worried in the least. You will have a great day.
Jen- OMG - so close. I am so excited for you. I can't wait to see your pics. I know it's hard, but try to relax a bit in these next few days!! Save your strength for the honeymoon

Re: Coral House
I had my engagement party there on 4/18. I love the place. It is very comfy sort of a home feel like. There were a couple of things I wasn't happy with but CH made up for it by giving us SOOO much more food than we had asked for when we chose our menu.
Jenn don’t worry about anything. You are going to be so happy!! The one thing you cannot control is people’s opinions. Unfortunately, there will always be someone that doesn’t like this or that. But the majority will rule. As it was at my party, everyone was happy with the service, food and place. As will your guests on your wedding day!!!

I haven't gone to a wedding there, but the food was very good and the bathrooms were clean (and there were several parties going on, so for it to be clean someone was maintaining it constantly) - - as for the lake being 'dirty' that is absolutely ridiculous. So everyone who is getting married at the Riveria, San Souci, Windows on the Lake or in the Hamptons OR having their cocktail hour outside i.e. - birds (along side them possibily pooping on tables) are going to make sure the Ocean and LI Sound and near-by meadows are clean???? Some people just don't think.

Re: Coral House
Look, everything is in the eye of the beholder. One drive past the Coral House and you'll see how beautiful it is. I went to Glen Island Harbor Club and thought the place S-U-C-K-E-D royal hiney, but there are tons of other brides that will tell you the place is better than Oheka.
I've been to Coral House, the food is great, it's a catering hall, and it's catering hall food. If you don't want luke warm meat and mass produced potatoes, have a wedding for 25 people in a restaurant. You're not going to get a five star meal at a catering hall, you can come close, (like at Chateau Briand-yummy) but it won't be the best meal you've ever had in your life. The place is very pretty, and they do a great job. A lot of people have told me that my reception hall is a wedding factory (Crest Hollow), yet I've been to weddings there and it couldn't be further from the truth. They do an amazingly beautiful job on weddings there.
Your wedding is what you and the people attending make it!

Re: Coral House
Firstly, I want to say that this is a public board and we are all entitled to our opinions but to call a place seedy is out of line TOTALLY!!!!
I am getting married at Coral House in September and I love the place. It has a charming victorian decor and my reception room is sooo romantic. I had a tasting there on my first visit and the food is excellent. This place offers a great package that rivals alot of other more expensive places on the Island and I am having a Saturday night wedding in September.
Coral House has been in business for 25 years and if you check there record on the BBB you will not see one complaint. Come to think of it there was a special on CBS the other night about reception halls and health code violations- If Coral House was not kept up wouldn't it have been on there- well guess what it wasn't.
I was there last month and I was so happy I chose the place.
So to sum this up please think before you write- Jennbaby is getting married there in 3 days and she did not need to hear this!!!

Re: Coral House
The cOral House is a beautiful place that does beautiful weddings and are very attentive to the bridal party and guests. There are some beautiful brides having their weddings there on this board and although I do agree evryone is entitled to their opinions, whether or not it is 'seedy' in your book, I think there are better more tasteful words that can be said if it is not your cup of tea. But JMO. Jenn, your wedding will most definitely be the best they've hosted--I hope they know this in advance!! :)

Re: Coral House
I know I made a good choice, however the seedy word got me a bit pis sed
To each their own...I know of places that are much worse & yes we werent on the news the other night for bad food & violations
