the sopastone is nice, but NOT crazy about the cement countertops

I think it really all depends on the overall look you want in the kitchen. Certain materials work better than others, depending on your style.

I just did a mica countertop b/c we didn't have a huge budget for it, AND I spent most of the $$ on my gorgeous floor. But, I would LOVE to have a butcher block island in my kitchen someday My aunt/uncle have one in their house and I LOVE it!

Those look pretty cool ,how does concrete compare with granite as far as durability and ease of care etc.??

What is the average cost for granite per square foot anyway?? Someone told me about $69 per square foot

Granite starts at about $69 a foot from what i have seen. The cost really depends on what kind you get and what sort of edge you want - something like 70 -100/foot?
