Corporate America

Corporate America

I have been wondering about this ever since I had lunch with a co-worker of mine the other day. Is it a requirement that you loose every ounce of personality in order to function in corporate America.....it is very strange. I have never never seen some more bland, dry people in my life

I don't think so. I work with lots of personalities in Corporate America. And I like to believe I have one as well.

I mean the executives.........they have NO PERSONALITY, I would like to think I have a heck of a personality myself

I just think that you may have to be a bit more guarded.

I work in advertising which is a pretty laid back setting. I tend to think I have a very quirky personality. I say and do things, which are not neccesarily bad, but I doubt if I worked in a more uptight enviroment I could get away with.

I couldn't disagree more....Most of the people I work with are executives in corp. America and are actually great people.
They are just like you and I...People with families, planning weddings, buying houses (summer or otherwise) worrying about layoffs....
The only major difference I have noted is that they make a lot more $$$$

At least this has been my experience... )

I think it depends on the organizational culture and if the work environment allows people to let there true personalities come out.

At my previous company, I came in contact with many senior exec and they were some of the most interesting and down to earth people to talk to.

Maybe you work with the wrong people. My company is full of 'personalities'. Some are quirky, some are bland and some cool. As many bland and dry people in Corp America - you can find in working class America. But I do agree with the above poster who said that some organizations are more rigid therefore people sometimes do not let their personalities come out 100% - it wouldn't fit in the environment.

DH and I are part of Corp America and we have great personalitites! And we are both in mgmt/exec roles!
