Corset People

Corset People

I was originally referred to Sylvia's Corsets on Merrick Road in Rockville Centre. My MOH and I went there on Friday afternoon. I left early from work because the place closes at 5.30p every day. Anyway, there was one 80 year old woman working there, so we had to wait. When it was our turn, I told her that I needed a strapless corset for my wedding, and I didn't want anything frumpy. She asked my size and when I told her, she proceeded to check my cup size herself by coping a feel. Highlight of my day! She then only had one item to show me which was not altogether too frumpy, but I didn't love it. But although it was my waist size, she didn't even have my cup size.

So now I'm in search of going somewhere else. I don't want to order anything online because I want to be able to try it on. I've heard of Mary's in Woodbury, Georgette's in Hicksville and Miriam's in East Meadow. Who is better? Do any of them have evening hours? Do they have non-frumpy choices?

I am having the same dilema. I am getting fitted for my cousin's BM dress Thursaday so I wanted to go someplace today after work. Mary's closes at 4:45 today? and Miriam's closes at 6:00. I am going to try to get there before they close....do you think they will kill me?

Re: Corset People

You think they would understand that people work and can't get there so early. You would think they want the business from us brides who are willing to spend lots of money unlike the old biddies that usually go in there.

Let me know how you make out at Miriams. I can get to them by 5.30p.

Have you tried LaPerla in Manhattan? They are pricy but have the most wonderful things.

Re: Corset People

Well I went to Miriam's last night (Mary's closed at 4:45 and I needed something for thursday - I am such a procrastinater!). I had a great experience. I needed something for my cousin's wedding (I'm a BM) and I want to wear it again for my wedding (honestly - how many of these things do I need?) I've lost about 20 lbs. in the past year so I wasn't sure of my size, Barbara sized me up and got me a great Domonique long line w/ matching underwear. My wedding dress has spaghetti straps and a very low back so I will need to have it altered slightly to lower the back a bit - but alterations are included and will only take a day or two so I give the experience an A+!
