Just curious if anyone wants to share the avg. cost for an officiant. I've been quoted $350 for a civil ceremony & higher for anything longer/customized. Just wondering what the going rates are. TIA

Re: Cost for wedding officiant?
pastor april is around 4-500 but she states you pay what you can... its not the money its the pure joy of what she does so if you can't afford that much don't give her that muhc but i think she's wayyyy beyond 500 ! she's spectacular.. and makes you a totally customized ceremony

Wow! I feel like I am getting ripped off! We are paying $900 for a priest and a rabbi. Maybe its so much more because its 2 people? We really liked them though.

For a civil ceremony by whom?? A judge or someone with a religious affiliation that does civil ceremonies??
Judges are not permitted by law to charge the kind of $$$ the girls are posting here.

Re: Cost for wedding officiant?
thanks everyone for the input. i think we've actually settled on someone to preform our wedding service! We called three folks and actually found a Catholic Priest who is willing to marry us on the beach. Even though it won't be a mass, it will still be considered a Catholic service & we'll still get the certificate from the RCC. I think this is a great compromise for us. We don't have to do formal precana- but we have to meet with him 3x before the wedding & he's going to help us write our own vows. I think we're going to work well together. He is affiliated with Good Shepard in Hampton Bays, if anyone is interested let me know. We'll be giving a 'donation' of $500 to the church- but this seems to be the norm. We're sending him a deposit to hold our date this week- our first wedding service to be booked other than the reception site Yay!

Catholic Priest cannot marry you outside the church. I had a 'reverend' do it. He used to be a priest in the church
