thanks everyone for the input. i think we've actually settled on someone to preform our wedding service! We called three folks and actually found a Catholic Priest who is willing to marry us on the beach. Even though it won't be a mass, it will still be considered a Catholic service & we'll still get the certificate from the RCC. I think this is a great compromise for us. We don't have to do formal precana- but we have to meet with him 3x before the wedding & he's going to help us write our own vows. I think we're going to work well together.
He is affiliated with Good Shepard in Hampton Bays, if anyone is interested let me know.
We'll be giving a 'donation' of $500 to the church- but this seems to be the norm. We're sending him a deposit to hold our date this week- our first wedding service to be booked other than the reception siteYay!
Catholic Priest cannot marry you outside the church. I had a 'reverend' do it. He used to be a priest in the church
Yeah- I've always though the exact same thing. I directly asked him about it & he said that while the church does not encourage it, he is ok with doing it. It will not be the exact same thing that couples getting married inside the church will have- but we will still get our certificate, which is all i care about. He's been a priest for 25 years, so I'm trusting him. Nobody I know has heard of this either, but fi & I are going with it and we're happy with our find.
