Cost of a bridal shower

Cost of a bridal shower

I am a bm in my FSIL wedding. Her MOH called me last night to discuss the plans for her shower.

Just out of curiousity, before I post how much the MOH thought we should pay per person, what do you guys think is reasonable?

The price she gave, just includes the location and a gift. Decorations, invitations and everything else is all extra!

200-300ish?? Depending on how many girls there are and where the location is

well it depends on how many girls are in the party.

Im in my cousins and we are meeting next week to talk about this stuff. We dont have to worry about the place since my aunt and her MIL are paying for that part. I would say see what needs to be bought and then divide it by how many girls.

My sister is in her friends and her mother is making the girls chip in $200 EACH ! Because she isnt paying for anything she just got the hall for nothing. so it depends.

I think it ranges - one shower up in RI I paid close to $300 but for my friends shower here in NY I paid $30. That was b/c her mom took a lot of the costs - it really comes down to who is involved to pay and how well it's planned.

The $300 one I found out 2 weeks before I had to be in RI that I had to pay that much. I was soooooo pissed.

it really all depends what kind of shower is being thrown (restuarant/in home), who's paying for the food (BP or mother/family) and what will happen at the shower (are you playing games/will their be prizes?).

I have been asked to pay anywhere from $150-$400 towards a shower. It's just one of the expenses you have to factor in when accepting the role as BM

Hmm ok, maybe I am over reacting then. There are 7 of us and she suggested we pay $200 for location and gift. Then everything else will be extra.

Plus she already found a location without discussing anyhting with us, and then asks us for the suggested amount, AFTER she finds the place?!

I guess i'm just a little annoyed that this was all planned last minute and I need to come up with all the money so quickly.

Plus the person the bride got for hair and makeup is going to cost $300 for us and the dress was $200. W ehave to stay in a hotel for 2 nights that is $160 a night. I just feel like I would be a little more considerate of my girls.

Sorry for the rant! Just needed to vent!

how many people are in the BP?
how many guests do you expect to invite?
are you having it at a restaurant?

I personally agree with you that I think it's wrong to not have discussed and got approval from all the girls before going out and renting a hall or buying anything.

I was in a wedding last year, and the MOH (the bride's sister) just went out and started getting stuff for the shower and the day of (yes the day of) she goes and tells us 'You guys owe me $250 each for all this stuff'... needless to say I was not happy, especially since I had gone out an purchased everything on my own for the games and prizes and wasn't asking for a dime from any for it because I understood it as we were all spliting up responsibilities and paying for them (which would all amount to the same).

OMG, that is unbelievable!!!! I guess I should be happy I am being given a little notice! lol

I just hope when it comes time for my shower, the girls plan it together and work together on a budget that's good for everyone.

I guess I just have to s*ck it up- like you said, it's part of the responsibility that comes with being in a bridal party

The last minute thing is what really gets me - I think that is sooo rude to just expect people to dish out that kind of cash just b/c now that you planned it and are ready.

In the end I don't mind forking up the cash - if you are a BM you were asked to be one and you have a job to do, but that doesn't mean you should have to go broke b/c of poor planning by someone else

when it was my sister's bridal shower, my mom paid for the location, which included food, but i paid for everything else, like centerpieces, games everything else you can think of. none of the other BM helped. including my gift to her, everything totaled out at about $1K

precisely why I requested that the shower be held at my mother's house. I really do not want my mom or my BP to spend money on a hall or a restaurant for my shower, plus I have done everything else at my mom's house, it just feels right to have it there. I also requested a specific Neopolitan Cake, but that's besides the point LOL.

I had already discussed with my mom what she would like my BMs to do and she told me that she is paying for everything but if the girls want to take care of decorations and 'fun stuff' than they can do that.

I will definitely be discussing everything with my mom for the same reason.

I feel your pain. FSIL's shower in in July, mine will be in AUgust. We were asked to contribute $300 plus invites and favors. And all this with my own wedding to pay for. We'll work it out though.

Im not really sure I've been in 2 of my friends weddings but neither of their MOH asked us for money. For one I just picked up decorations the other her mom and MOH paid for everything. I offered to help anyway I could but they told me they had it covered

Out of all the bridal parties I've been in.. I've only had to help pay once... 5 girls in the bridal party.

The mom calls us a month before and TELLS US to split it with her $700 each. I was away at college at the time.. and was ready to shiit a brick I was so mad.. I didn't work - my parents were helping me out so I wouldn't have to work in college.

Every other bridal party I've been in the mom paid.

My mom is paying for mine but asked 2 of my bridesmaids to make the wishing well (they're very artsy anyway)
