My sister has three small children(all boys) and usually a family member babysits. She wanted to get a babysitter and I recommend my friends niece. I have know her since she was born, we use to babysit her. I kept asking how much does she get paid. No one would give me an answer and said pay her what ever your sister wants.
Well, my sister picked her up yesterday and brought her to the house to play with the kids a little bit before my sister put them to bed. She wanted them to see her incase they should wake up. Before my sister left to go out she asked her how much do you get paid, she said $10 an hour.
$10 an hour to sit on the couch and watch t.v. The kids slept and she didn't have to do a thing. When I babysat I use to get $2 an hour and I had to play and put the kids to bed. Does anyone else think that's a lot for a 15 year to make? I want that job.

Re: Cost of Babysitting?
I don't have kids but most of my friends do. Judging by how anxious parents of young children are to leave to go out with 'grown-ups', I would imagine that a decent babysitter whom parents can trust would be worth her/his weight in gold.

I agree, however I was paid $9-10 an hour more than 10 years ago when I was 15!

I agree - $10.00 seems like the going rate for babysitters- to be honest if 3 kids were awake i would ask for more...thats a big job!!!! IMO

Re: Cost of Babysitting?
Honestly, the first mistake your sister made was to ASK a 15 yr. old how much she makes. Usually when I would babysit, the parents told me what they paid. That's why there were some people, when they called me, I didn't want to sit for them, or no matter what, I WOULD sit for them. Different people would pay differently.

My siater said the samething. She felt bad b/c she is a family friend and her mother and aunt kept telling me Kimmy would be happy with what ever we gave her. My sister didn't want to think she was cheating her b/c we knew her. She only babysits for one other person. I guess we all learn from our mistakes.

Re: Cost of Babysitting?
$10.00 for 3 children is nothing. In the city, 3 kids run at least 15 and up
