wow, i thought i was nice! i took care of hair and nails and they didn't have to pay a cent for the shower or my bach party. we did go to vegas but they didn't have to pay my way.

i am going to be a bm for the first time next fall and i do see how it will all add up...she already picked priscilla of boston dresses for the bm and her wedding will be in florida so the travel and lodging will be a big factor.

still she is one of my closest friends so i'm not complaining.

my best friend who lives in brooklyn got married last fall

she decided to have the wedding in her hometown in PA where her and her husband met (near Philly).

three nights in the hotel (RD was two days before wedding) =$450 plus gas, tolls, etc. = $550

bride realized night before her wedding that she totally forgot to make signs telling people where the wedding was (it was in a national park) = $50 in Michaels for supplies

her shower was in Western PA at her mother's house (where she lived until she was 8).

one night in hotel (since there was no room in mom's house for the BMs) = $100 plus gas, tolls, etc. = $200

bridal shower that her mother was throwing for her, but asked all 6 of the BMs to contribute $50 each

gift for the bridal shower = $100

wedding gift = $500

bachelorette party (i skipped the out of town one in Miami where they all spent approximately $1000 between airfare, hotels, etc.) - went only to the NYC bach party = $200

FH was also in the BP

Suit purchase = $300 with alterations (from MW)

Bachelor party = $500 (Weekend in AC)

Three days off of work between shower and wedding = approx $1000 (i know you don't factor this in normally, but at the time i was working as a temp and i actually lost wages because you don't get vacay as a temp)

did my own hair and makeup (THANK GOD)

my best friend's wedding cost me $3450

ETA: I forgot BM shoes and nails (she wanted us to all have french tips) = $100 and also goodies for the bachelorette party = $30 each BM

TOTAL: $3580

My girls only paid for their gowns. I paid for everything else. I even paid for my MOH to fly out a day before her husband so we could do fun girls things together. I am too nice.

My moh is way higher than that with travel and hotel!!!

Re: Cost of being a BRIDESMAID

That's seems about right. I haven't paid less than $2k for any wedding party I have been in. But, I know that going in.

And yes ... it is costly to be a bridesmaid! I have been a bridesmaid .... let's just say more times than id like to admit! It certainly adds up quicker than one would think!
