Cost of Flowers

Cost of Flowers

Hi all,

I've started to price flowers for the wedding and went so far to Flowers by Brian (which is a house vendor). I know it's so far in advance since I am not getting married till March of 2008 but I feel like I should start looking.
Can I ask is there any specific questions (other than the obvious) that I should be asking the florist? Also what is the average cost for wedding flowers?

Not too early to look...

Don't know prices sorry! But I would think average is $2500.

It depends on flower type and CPs (high v. low) but sometimes you just need an idea.

So I think average is $2500. Some brides spend less than $1K, some over $5K...

Roses are the least expensive flower and low CPs are less expensive than high ones.

HTH!

Re: Cost of Flowers

Hi there and welcome to the boards!!

Its never to early to book vendors! Honestly, I just booked my florist, and my wedding is in June 2008. On the flip side though, don't feel like you have to do everything right away. Some ladies don't book their florist until 6 months out.

I know you wont like the answer to this...but I don't really think you can say what the 'average' cost of wedding flowers is....because it really varies on how many peopl you'll have, and how big your wedding party is, etc.

I'd say though that the average price (?! Maybe I'm TOTALLY off) for bouquets is around $150, and the average centerpiece is $75 for low centerpieces and $125-175 for high centerpieces? Please - someone correct me if you think differently....?

I have seen centerpieces that were $50 (for low ones) and $250+ for high ones....it really depends on what flowers you choose, and how elaborate you want to get!

Also, if you are using church flowers or chuppah decor it will tack on a lot of money too....

I'm sorry - I know its probably not the answer you're looking for, but maybe given those averages you can figure out what you need (before ceremony decor, cocktail hour decor, etc...)

hope that helps!

I love that we both thought to answer.

Great minds... (or, as ross from friends would say...'unagi.')

Re: Cost of Flowers

Oh it does help.. we're having a chuppa (minimal flowers for it-nothing elaborate) which doubles as a dais decoration as well - I recall correctly the quote from Flowers By Brian was about $2,400.00 with the assumption of 12 tables at this time, also includes the bouquets (mine, my MoH, 2 BM) a dais centerpiece, 2 corsages, flower girl petals, and butonerries (excuse my spelling). The flowers for the chuppa I want to keep simple and elegant and also have low centerpieces (it's just me I can't stand high centerpieces- I don't want my guests feeling they can talk to one another w/o seeing over the flowers). I'm looking a cream, lavender, and pink for the colors (MoH and BM are going to have lilac dresses I hope if I can find the ones I want).
The good news is wedding and reception is all at Russo's on the Bay so I think that saves me for the temple flowers.
I plan on checking out Flowers Michele in Mineola as well as Stephan's in Cedarhurst and one other (can't recall name at the moment) to get more ideas- the florist was very suprised that I had an idea of what I want this early in the planning stage.

Also good news is I don't have to worry about the cocktail hour- Russo's is taking care of that with their in house florist for me.

I havent seen and flower vendors or inquired about flowers. I was thinking my flowers would cost me around 5K bec I have no idea what they cost, but now I feel a little better seeing prices like 1,000 - 2,500

Re: Cost of Flowers

lol yes I didn't want to spend that kind of money on the chuppa- with this quote is was $850.00 for the chuppa alone with minimal flowers. It was $75.00 per centerpiece as well. Also of course I want flowers on my wedding cake.
He threw in alot of extras for free- I felt very confident sitting with him and telling him what I like - I know March is a slow time of year for most vendors (one of the reasons why we chose March) and he's right across the street from Russo's as well...kinda easy for him to just bring it all over...lol

I'm going to check out Flowers Michele .. my fiance's friend is using them in their October 2007 wedding so if we get invited I'd get to see what they did for him and his wife to be.

Re: Cost of Flowers

Cost can depend on the type of flower you use- my florist doesn't charge by type, but by quantity, so I can change my mind! It is Flowers by Burton.

Make sure you compare cost of flower types and ask to see examples.

Re: Cost of Flowers

I met with Flower Michelle and i got a price of
$ 3,800 thats with calla lilies for my girls and myself. Also with low table center pieces for 26 tables.

But I booked with pedestals because my FH's aunt is best friends with Phyllis and she gave us an awesome price.
