My FI and I went to pick up my FBIL from college today and stopped at a diner in Connecticut...we picked up one of those Real Estate book just to look...OMG something that would cost over 500,000 or more here is like 319,000 there I thought I was going to be sick...Long Island is so insane

Yeah, the cost of living is crazy, but in what areas where those 319,000 houses in Connecticut?
In nice areas of Connecticut, it is just as expensive as here.
I think the price of houses will go down a little, but not that much. I guess where all doomed.

There are TONS of beautiful places in CT but the prices get pretty similiar to us if you go the well know neighborhoods! Unfortunately LI & NJ are the 2 most expensive places to live...If you are able to move it is a great opportunity...FH & I will be among those living on LI...Neither one of us can leave our jobs to move out of state

WAIT! My dad lives in South Carolina, their MORTGAGE is 1/3 of my rent!!!!! Their taxes are like $400/YEAR!!!! THIS is why FH and I are SERIOUSLY considering moving out of NY Metro area!!!

My MOH lives in VA and her mortgage is less than my rent. It's incredible. But unfortunately, if we choose to stay here we don't have a choice.

Do you thinl LI is bad?? Try living in Staten Island.. You cant even buy a townhouse or a condo in a decent neigborhood for under $400,000!!

Yes it is! You know you're in trouble when you are reduced to taking empty soda bottles back to the store to finance the house/wedding.

I know how everyone says the cost of living is SO high here (which it is), and that a lot of people are moving out of LI because of that... but if FI and I moved out of state our salaries would drop considerably as well...so in other areas houses may be much cheaper, but they also may be paying their employees much less too...

I agree- because I am in CT and it is just as crazy here ....we live in a fairly small one bedroom condo and the taxes are over 4,000 It is kind of crazy!

Tell me about it!! FI were looking at 2 bedroom Co-ops and condos and there is nothing out there for less then 300k and then the maintenance fee is crazy! A house was just sold on my block for 460K and it needs to be fully gutted!!!

Yeah I grew up in St.James and now I live upstate. My fh and I own now. I probably would be living in an apt. forever if I stayed on Li! Ulster and Orange counties up here are gettingexpensive too though

ANywhere in this area-ny ct-nj costs are obsurd...

But have you noticed that there are houses for sale EVERYWHERE?
I drive down Blue Point Ave here in Farmingville and there are bout 10 houses for sale between Middle Country Road and the LIE. I hope this is a sign of the market coming down. No one can afford to live here.

My parents sold our house in Freeport for about $300,000 three years ago. They bought a beautiful house in South Carolina, on 1/2 an acre, for $89,000.

one of my BM lives in GA and she just got a 3 bedroom 2 bathroom living room, dining room, kitchen -2 car garage BRAND new they just finished building it for 161,000 that is sick -
