Re: costa rica ?!?!
I have heard amazing things about Costa Rica, FH and I just went to his 10yr reunion a few weeks ago and one of his classmates was raving about this place.
http://www.paradisus-playa-conchal.com/
My cousin also went to Costa Rica on her honeymoon and seriously raves and raves and raves about it. I am not sure where she stayed, but i can ask her if you'd like.
Now I have heard the beaches are not great, now by not great i am going with the assumption they are meaning not like powder white sandy, bc my cousins pictures on FB are really pretty.

Re: costa rica ?!?!
fsil went there for vaca last year, she said it was very pretty but she didnt feel comfortable or safe that much, she knew of 5 people that got mugged while she was there, and when they rented a car they had to sign all these releases, the guy told them to keep their doors locked and windows up at all times
this is just what she said from her time there, im sure people go and love it though

Re: costa rica ?!?!
I was there in May of 2007 - so much fun! We saw a volcano, went zip lining through the rain forest, saw so many monkeys and beautiful fish. We went to the Pacific side and the water was crystal clear. The biggest issue with the beaches was that the sand was so incredibly hot. The water was also really warm - both the ocean and the pools. The food was terrific, the roads were terrible and the people were very friendly. I didn't worry about safety but we were mostly at a resort so I don't know if that counts. Good luck with the planning!

Re: costa rica ?!?!
I went there with my friends about 5 years ago and we had a great time! We stayed for 5 nights in Arenal and 5 nights in Tamarindo. We stayed at a spa in Arenal called Tabacon--I think. It's right next to the volcano in the rainforest. Very beautiful place. There are hot springs from the heat from the volcano. It is very relaxing--you could go for spa treatments during the day and relax in the hot springs. We also went hiking there. There is not much to do at night though. Tamarindo is more of a beach/surfing town, We went for surf lessons and just walked around. We stayed in El Diria (something like that). Very very nice hotel. We stayed by the pool most of the day, The beaches aren't that nice to lay out on. It is windy and the sand blows on you---at least when i was there. If you have any questions def FM me--I could go on and on........

Re: costa rica ?!?!
I've been told by a travel agent that October is the rainy season in Costa Rica, I was looking at the paradisus as well but probably won't end up going there due to the rain factor. I was also told (i'm not sure where you are planning on flying out of) that there are currently no direct flights out of JFK or LaGuardia to Costa Rica and that we would have to fly out of Newark if we wanted to go direct.

Re: costa rica ?!?!
Omg, I just booked TODAY to go to Paradisus Playa Conchal in Costa Rica...my travel agent found the place and recommended it after working with me on a couple of other non Costa Rica resorts, and she got us a fantastic deal...a coworker saw me on the website today at work and goes, 'I went there on MY honeymoon and it was totally fabulous and amazing...make sure you get the Royal Service!' Check it out online and if you want my travel agent's name FM me. :)

Re: costa rica ?!?!
Costa Rica is the BEST trip I've ever been on. We never felt unsafe..the only place I wouldn't recommend going to is San Jose, don't even stay for a day..I've heard there is nothing to do and yes, it can get unsafe there at night. It's such a safe place and peaceful country that they don't even have an army. Alot of hippies and Quakers there!
We did 4 nights in Arenal (rain forest), where we did waterfall rappelling, went to hot springs, did hanging bridges in the canopy, went to see a beautiful waterfall and did caving (which was ALOT more fun than it sounds).
We did 2 nights in Monteverde (cloud forest), where we ziplined with the Original Canopy Tour which is voted one of the best ones in CR, visited Butterfly Farms and a Frog Pond.
Also, 2 nights in Manuel Antonio (beach meets rainforest), where we kayaked, snorkeled and took surfing lessons.
It's an amazing place with alot to do..Most of all, the Costa Ricans are so friendly and nice and have such a beautiful way of life. Pura Vida, that's what they say.
