Costco vs. BJ's?

Which one do you think is better and why? Our membership for Costco is up but we now live closer to BJ's so we're trying to decide which one to sign up for.

Re: Costco vs. BJ's?

I have memberships to both.

I use Costco mostly for food items.
I use BJ's for household stuff (pots/pans knick knacks, toys & etc etc)

I like them both. If I had to choose one -- I'd go with Costco.

Re: Costco vs. BJ's?

Costco all the way.

I got a BJ's membership because we got a corporate discount and while they had some good stuff that Costco doesn't have the toothbrushes (whihc is a regular purchase of ours) were much more expensive.

Re: Costco vs. BJ's?

We have boht. They're god for different things. I think BJ's has a slight edge in my book, but that maybe b/c it's under 10 min from me.

Re: Costco vs. BJ's?

BJ's all the way, they accept different forms of payment. I think Costco is just American express or cash.

Re: Costco vs. BJ's?

I can't really vote because I have a membership to BJ's and have only visited Costco a couple times with friends.

But I can tell you that I'm not exactly seeing the savings at BJ's. Everyone told me to keep it for diapers and formula and to be honest, with coupons BRU is the same or better and with formula, BJs is the same price (actually a few cents MORE) than Walmart. I think it was the same price at Stop and Shop too.

Sure my bread is half price and milk is considerably cheaper, but I am not going to a warehouse spending $$$$ to save a few cents on milk.

On the things that I know my prices on, I have noticed that you are paying the same per unit, you are just buying a bigger package.

JMO

(That said, I did find some interesting Christmas gifts there the other day! but is it worth a membership fee?)

Re: Costco vs. BJ's?

We have a costco membership and we get some really great deals. I even like there Kirkland line of things (butter, bath soap, etc).

The only thing they never seem to have is big bottles of diet coke so I stock up on that when they are on sale at grocery stores.

The amex/cash thing is a little annoying but then I would hate to carry a balance one month on a credit card and pay finance charges on groceries. So it's not that big a deal to me.

ETA....I check the websites for BJ's & Costco and their membership fees are $40 and $45 respectively.

BJ's also takes coupons.

Re: Costco vs. BJ's?

Costco membership is more expensive but I think they have more variety. The good thing about BJs is that they close later. 9PM I believe vs Costo having a earlier close time. I forget the exact time. I have both memberships as well

Last time I got a good deal for michilin (can't spell) tires for my car. There was some sort of coupon or something. In my book, each has its own benefit...

Guess I'm not being too helpful! Sorry...

Re: Costco vs. BJ's?

See we've belonged to Costco and we love it. But now that we moved BJ's is so much closer and the closest Costco is the one in Westbury-which is always crazy busy. So we're thinking of switching. But the few times I've gone to BJ's I have noticed that they don't seem to have as much as Costco.

Re: Costco vs. BJ's?

You guys are killing me with this post. I am a Costco Mgr for years so I get my membership for free. My sister bought one to BJ's since it is close to her house. I have gone there with her and I have a really hard time buying stuff there. All of the Bj's that I have been in are very dirty looking and I don't know if it is just something that I see b/c I know how anal we are with Cleaniness but I think appearance is a lot when shopping and it makes it hard for me to buy stuff there especially food products.

If you have any Costco questions just ask me.

And Btw We do only accept american express but if you get our american express/costco card you dont have to pay it in full at the end of the month, there is no annual fee and you get 2% back on ur shopping everywhere not just costco. Ok now I sound like a salesman I have one and it is a good deal (I like getting $$ to shop )

Re: Costco vs. BJ's?

wow the poll is pretty close. Maybe we'll try BJ's for a year since it's so close to us and if we don't like it we can always switch to Costco. It's not like you get a discount for renewing the membership so we could sign up in a couple of months for the same price.
