Could use some support ... quit smoking yesterday

Hey ladies!

So yestrerday was the Big Day for me, I had my last cigarette and do not intend to ever smoke again. This is my first very serious attempt to quit but I want it to be my last as well.

I could use some support, if any of you have it to give Any former smokers out there?

It's going to be tough, but I don't want to be a smoker bride, and I don't want to be a smoker wife, and I want to have kids and want to quit now before I get there.

Wish me luck!!!

Oh, good luck... I'm not personally a smoker, but my best friend and half of my family are... just stay strong- you can do it, and you have good reasons for wanting to quit. Just imagine how white your teeth will be on your wedding day since you'll have 4 months cigarette-free!!

Also, good for you for taking such a huge step towards being healthier :) I'll pray for you that you get through it!

it's one of the hardest habits you'll ever try to kick, and if this is your first time trying, it might not be your last. It' HARD. I am trying and trying and trying lol. the patch really helps alot, because it is on 24 hours a day, and really curbs the cravings, but you have the wear it for it to work. this is my problem, i forget to put it on.
Don't let stress be an excuse to smoke, this is also my problem. I blamed wedding stress, regular stress, work stress, and i used those excuses to smoke. Just don't do it. I didn't smoke on my wedding day, i wore a patch. now i am smoking one here, one there like a moron. it's really hard., especially when you like to smoke. see, i kinda like it. but it's horrible for you, and you will see that once you have stopped for 2 or 3 weeks, guess what? YOU FEEL LIKE A DIFFERENT PERSON :O)
good luck!!!! but remember, don't get down on yourself if it doesn't work this time: at least you're putting in the effort to stop. be proud of yourself for it!

Oh, thank you for this. The closest I ever got was one cig a day, but then I made excuses for myself (stress, just like you) and went back to normal. I'm not a heavy smoker but I am an addicted smoker and I'm going to stop now. I've finally reached the point where I want to, where it's my decision, and I am going to stick to it, no matter what.

Unfortunately I'm not going to fit in my dress because I'm eating so damn much already ... gotta go buy some fruit and gum ...

I haven't had a cigarette in 3 years - and I'm finally at the point where I don't miss it.

In the beginning I had to take it one hour at a time. I would tell myself if I still want a cigarette in a hour - I'll let myself have one. Then I would tell myself, I already have 24 hours under my belt - why ruin it.

You can do it. Just think of all the $$$ you will be saving and how much your health will improve!

If you need to vent, feel free to FM me.

CONGRATULATIONS! It's really hard but once you get past that first week it gets easier! You should be very proud of yourself! You'll be so happy once you quit! You'll love how you don't smell like smoke anymore (even if you think you don't, believe me you do!) Since I quit, my coworkers go outside to smoke and I can't believe how they smell when they come back in! You're car will be sooooo clean and fresh... Oh, there's so many little things you'll notice in addition to all the health benefits! Keep up the hard work, it will totally pay off in the end! I can't think of a worse image than an utterly gorgeous bride in a beautiful gown... smoking a cigarette! (sorry ladies who still smoke, don't mean to insult or be mean, it's just my humble opinion) GOOD LUCK!!!

Good Luck!! It is very difficult. If you really want to do this you will. Try to find a healthy release for your stress. For me exercising worked...also advice I was given when I quit the first time was that when you go to smoke a cigarette you stop and take a break so try to schedule little five minute breaks in you day.

Marissa, just prayed you'd be successful!!!!!! My Mom smoked from the age of 16 until about age 43. She stopped cold turkey, because a spot was found on her lung, but thankfully, it was benign, and she never smoked again!!!!! You're making a good choice for your health!!!!!! Blessings!!!!!!! Re: Could use some support ... quit smoking yesterday

You can do it!!!

I was a smoker for 8 years before I quit...and I mean like hardcore smoker.... ex: 2 ciggs just to get me to work on a 20 minute drive!

FH hated that I smoked and honestly he was the one who really made me quit and I thank him all the time for that! It was hard but I knew I had to quit... it was gross...everytime it rained the smell stuck to you and its disgusting!! Your car smells, and in the middle of a storm you are standing outside trying to puff that cigg lol how horrible is that?

Anyway- it was very hard at first, but once you get past a couple of days it starts to get easier. I had difficulty when I would be really upset, but try not to get s ucked back into smoking over stress or anything- try going to the gym and burn off that stress/anger.

Months after I quit, I realized how much better I felt about myself and I wasnt paying anymore for cancer sticks. I have to tell you something that really got to me one day.... So I was smoking and some guy walks by me and looks at me dead in the eyes and says ' You are way too beautiful to be smoking' and that REALLY got me thinking.... it was like wowww why am I throwing my life away. You dont NEED to smoke- if anything its a bad habit that we picked up along the way that is actually taking away from our lives.

Sorry so long.... I was just a really hardcore smoker and I know how hard it was...but just know that if I can do it, so can you. You are also way too beautiful to be smoking. You dont need it to survive....if anything it takes away from your life. You dont need those nicotine patches or anything like that.... just do it cold turkey and if you are serious about it, you'll do it.

I am not a smoker but I just wanted to say that you should already be so proud of yourself that you made the decision to quit smoking!!! Just keep the dream alive about being a non-smoking wife and mother! Having a mother who smokes I know how hard it was for her to quit so I will be praying that you will be able to quit successfully!!!
