Counseling- worried

Counseling- worried

Hi.

As some of you may know I have to find a new officiant.

All of the Pastors I am speaking to require pre marital counseling. I am not shocked or surprised by this as it is very typical and highly advisable.

I just want to know what to expect. I know it won't be as involved as Pre cana.

I am worried that he will tell us we are not compatible or we do not resolve issues in a healthy manner according to their standards.

Can a pastor refuse to marry you?
Can some of you share your experiences?

Hey K,

Our session was very laid back. He separated us to ask a few introductory questions and based on the answers he tries to determine how many sessions you may need.

It was not difficult and I was surprised by some on DH answers. We have been 2gether 8 years so I did not expect to be surprised.

The officiant can refuse to marry you, but I think that is a rare occurrence. He also gave us tips on how to better communicate.

Thanks Crisco,

FH and I have been together 10 years and I think we know each other pretty well, but you never know.

I may think we have a good relationship but the pastor may not.

Counseling is very good. I think counseling brings you so closer together.

We really enjoyed our counseling time. Its a real fun time. Its not a time to be stressed and worried about what the pastor thinks.

I think you guys will be fine. My husband always says counseling either brings you closer or you realize this marriage is not going to work.

Sweetie - you will be fine
The counseling is wonderful and helps you both to think about things and also helps lay a foundation for your marraige.
A Pastor can refuse to marry you, but that rarely happens, and I don't see that happenning with you.

Have you found one? Are you still looking?
What religion are you looking for? You can FM me, I will help you as much as I can

Don't worry. It will be fine
I am sure what the pastor speaks to you about is something you have already discussed in your 10 yrs of your relationship. Don't fret my friend...

it will be fine!

there is nothing a pastor can bring up that the 2 of you haven't already thought of

think of it as a chance to talk about why you're doing this and focus on the love and commitment - almost like a mental spa day!

Re: Counseling- worried

thanks ladies.

I just need an interfaith officiant to marry both of us.

Liz, thanks for the offer. I may have found someone.

He said there will be no tests, but he just wants to talk to us and see where we are both coming from.
