Country clubs
Hi. We are still trying to decide on a location for our wedding. FH and I had a 'disagreement' last night about having our wedding at a country club. He thinks that because we are not members (neither is anyone in our families) we will not be treated well and have a nice event at a country club. I said that we would and that I have been to many weddings at different places (my cousin got married at Port Jeff Country Club). My question is...for those of you getting married at different country clubs...did you pick these places because someone you know is a member, or because you liked their grounds, people, etc. Thanks.

Re: Country clubs
I am getting married at Woodbury Country Club but I don't think it is the 'country club' you are thinking about. I am not sure there really are members there. Thers is no golf course or anything. I picked it for the plae as a whole. It was like my dream place and the people there were amazing.I do not think that they treat anyone differently at these places if you are a member or not. They have it open to the public so they welcome you in. I am sure most of the weddings there are for non members.

Re: Country clubs
We are getting married at Old Westbury Country Club. Although the club and grounds are beautiful that is not the only reason we are getting married there. We chose the location because FI grandparents have been members for 30+ years and it is a very special place for his family. It is very expensive so we wouldnt be having our affair there if it wasnt for that. We go there on holidays and for special dinners, Fi and his FSIL were bar/bat Mitzvahs (sp) so it is no just any place to us. Its kinda special and we know we will be treated really really well.
Edited to say: This is a private club so you either need to have members in your family or be sponsored by a member. There are other public ones on LI that are amazing and host wonderful affairs.

Re: Country clubs
We booked at the Stewart Manor Country Club. stewart manorIt's not really a 'country club', as in like one on a golf course.
But regardless of being a member or not, a place should treat you with the best service no matter who you are.
If you are looking for a date.....9/5/04 is available at Stewart Manor $65pp. 100 guest minimum, centerpieces, cake, top shell, cocktail hour, etc. (nice place we decided to invite less people, so had to change halls)

Re: Country clubs
Per my co-worker, 'You don't need any affiliation except a checkbook' He then added, 'or a bag of cash'. He got married at a cc and I asked him about 20 times which one, I think Crest Hollow CC.

Re: Country clubs
I dont think that a lot of the place that have the name country club in them on Long Island are true country clubs. I think they were at one point but now they are no longer country clubs and just reception halls.Bridget

Re: Country clubs
We chose the Bellport Country Club. No one we know had even heard of it, let alone were members. There is a golf course which makes for beautiful pictures. But the 'clubhouse' for golfers is on the other end of the building. I think most CC's these days try to promote the catering end and weddings. With all the $$$ we are all spending on our weddings, they'd be stupid not to push into this market!
FH and I had been all over looking at places. We immediately fell in love with the BCC because it's GOT that country club feel. It was 9:30 on a Sunday night and we just stopped in b/c we were in the area! No appointment, nothing! The guy was SOOOOO nice and accomodating. He sat with us for 45 minutes while all around us, people were cleaning up and closing down.
You will definitely be treated with respect, member or no member!!

Re: Country clubs
I am getting married at the North Hempstead Country Club in Port Washington. No one in either family is a member, but its a special place because its where my parents had their wedding reception. Back then, a friend of the family sponsored the reception. For us, the son of this friend is sponsoring our wedding. I don't expect to be treated differently as an outsider -- our money is as good as anyone elses.Good luck!
