what are your thoughts before getting married to go to Couples counseling ? my family was suggesting it just to give us a better support system and help us to listen to each other fully?

Ditto on the pre-cana... we talked about everything from children, to faith, to money and future planning. Surprisingly helpful!

I know a lot of couples that do it. FH and I don't but I found that sooo many people benefit from it.

Pre-Cana is great. We were a little hesitant at first, but it worked out good. It's a good opportunity to talk about issues that you wouldn't normally talk about or are afraid to bring up. It also teaches you how to communicate.

Yeah that's what we are doing. The pastor won't marry us if we don't.

Re: Couples counseling ???
a year ago, fh and i were having some problems with our relationship...we knew we wanted to be together but we weren't communicating fully. we went to couples counceling and i can't believe how much it helped. it is a major reason why we got engaged last year.
we thought we knew everything about each other...it's amazing how much you can learn and how you can learn to communicate w each other in ways you hadn't. i think it's something every couple should do!! even if you're not having problems.

Wow....I second everything she said!!!
But...for it to work both parties have to want to go and have to keep an open mind!

I say go for it. I'm a huge fan of opening communication lines!
Sometimes an outside party can really help you where your friends or family cannot (because they are too closely connected to you guys).

Re: Couples counseling ???
I think for the right personalities it works! Have friends who have done it and rave! So I guess its good...
On the other hand for people like us... me and FH are so freaking cynical, that there is no way we could sit through something like that without making lame *** jokes, giggling, and eventually getting kicked out...
But I don't knock it for others I'm sure its very helpful!
