Covering My Shoulders For Church...

Covering My Shoulders For Church...

UGH!!! I understand about being respectful in church and all that but Im selfish and don't want my dress to look ugly because I have to wear some monstrosity to cover me up :(

Here's the deal... the back of my gown is the part that really makes the dress beautiful... so I don't want it covered for all my ceremony photos.

Does anybody have any ideas on how I can cover my shoulders?

Is there such thing as removable shoulder caps that my bridal salon can put on for the ceremony???

What ideas do you girls have if you are in a similar situation?

Thank you so much!

Check with your parish. For many churches, this is a non-issue, though some still abide by old-school rules.

I think it's acceptable in most place just to have a veil that covers your shoulders. Since it's sheer you can still see your dress, yet it covers your shoulders technically.

My church hasnt made a big deal about covering my shoulders, i thing the veil does count as covering the shoulders though

My Mom had the same problem -- she is wearing a strapless gown and not because the church said anything, she just felt she needed something in church. Her gown came with a shawl, but she doesn't love them, so she had the seamstress make a cap sleeve out of the shawl with snaps so she can remove them after church.

My church requested that my bm wear shawls & i didnt kno there dresses came with them at the time & i said i wasnt askin them to spend extra money & they said ok. THey didnt hassle me over it, cuz mines is strapless & im not wearing sleeves or a jacket.

Does your church require that?

First thing I did when we talked to St. Pats was ask them about this and they said that I did not have to have them covered.

I talked to my parish they do require me to have my shoulders covered and the veil is not acceptable but it can be sheer.... yeah, I really didn't understand the difference either.

My BM all have shalls... that's not an issue

Yeah I guess I'll ask if they can add sleeve caps with snaps... that shouldn't be too big of a deal and then I can take them off.

My aunt will be making me a shrug/bolero out of the lace from my mothers wedding dress for the church.
