Creative Ideas Needed ASAP!

Hey Ladies!

I have to go in for part two of my teaching interview tomorrow. I am being observed for four hours in a pre-k class. They asked me to bring an activity for the students so they can see me interact with them. What should I do??? Any creative ideas? I'm stumped, esp. considering I really don't want to go to the store right now to buy supplies! Any help you can provide would be immensely appreciated! TIA!

Re: Creative Ideas Needed ASAP!

St. Patricks Day is coming.....

Maybe cut out black pots and attach a piece of white paper (in the shape of a rainbow) and have them color it in and draw on the pot in chalk?

Re: Creative Ideas Needed ASAP!

Kids always like gluing cotton balls to things- and it is easy.

You could do snowmen, clouds....

I was thinking of something with snow too, since the weather is like this, but I just don't know how to make it interactive and how I can prepare for it. AARGH!

Re: Creative Ideas Needed ASAP!

Do you have 'The Snowy Day' by Ezra Jack Keats? If you do, you can read that and during it, discuss how the snow melts inside his house. Then bring in some snow from outside, let them feel it, and describe it then put it where it will melt for them to look at later. Then hand out black pieces of construction paper and let them draw their own snowmen in white chalk or white crayon. They can also draw snowflakes or glue pieces of cotton as snowflakes falling down.

This lesson incorporates science, senses, creative drawing and eye hand coordination if you do the glueing. Good luck!

Take a quick peek at FamilyFun.com. Maybe they have a cute St. Patty's project you can make a sample of tonight.

Wow! You're GOOD! You must be a teacher yourself! And a good one at that! Unfortunately I don't have that book or the time to go get it, but I'll likely do something similar. Thanks again everyone! I'll consider all of your ideas and let you know how it goes tomorrow!

Re: Creative Ideas Needed ASAP!

Awww thanks..

I am a preschool teacher. I love it! I know the one thing they wanna see is the kids being creative. Dont hinder them by having them just color something. Let their creativity show. One hint too...if your using glue..let them put it on...people feel that if you put the glue where you want them to put the piece being glued, your not letting them be creative!

Good luck again!

Re: Creative Ideas Needed ASAP!

I totally agree. In the library I work, the best projects were putting different materials out on the table and letting the kids create their own creation.

Re: Creative Ideas Needed ASAP!

Thanks again, ladies! You are the best. I wish I had more supplies here. I literally had NO time to go shopping for all of this stuff. I KNOW they have it there too which is frustrating.

Re: Creative Ideas Needed ASAP!

i teach kindergarten art... the kids LOVE glitter!!! I used that with a recent snow lesson... and it is great for their fine motor coordination... they put some glue on the paper (in shapes like stars or as snowpiles, whatever) adn then they pinch the glitter over it... they LOVE it!! or even just doing letters in glue then glitter... anything with glitter...

Re: Creative Ideas Needed ASAP!

The Snowy Day is also good for sequencing! If you had time to go to the store there is this stuff (at Weans) that is 'snow'. You just add water to it and it grows and grows and grows. It looks like snow. Kids are amazed by it!

You could also do The Jacket I Wear in the Snow. Talk about winter clothes, their function, have kids sort clothing based on season, dress a person for the snow, answer riddles based on the clothing (basic riddles...I am warm, I am long, I wrap around your neck, what am I?).

Your other option is to do something on 'March comes in like a lion and goes out like a lamb' b/c March starts next week. You can talk about weather and calendar and they can do a lion/lamb project.

Re: Creative Ideas Needed ASAP!

Hi! I'm a Kindergarten teacher and recently did a cute project with my kids! =) We talked about what they see outside their window inthe wintertime. (you can first read a winter story) Then they drew a picture of what they see with white chalk. It was on blue construction paper and I cut out black strips to make the window pane. We added glitter to them as well. It turned out really cute!! =) Good luck!!
