Creative Place Cards?
I went to a garden wedding where the place cards were beach rocks...
The house (or should I say mansion) was next to the water and beach and they put everyone's name and table in calligraphy on different sized rocks and put them out on a table. On the underside, they put the couple's name and date...I just thought it was the coolest thing...FINALLY, something different and it didn't cost thousands of dollars. They also gave windchimes as favors, lest anyone thinks they were cheap.
Thanks, Lisa

I saw something interesting on Martha Stewart website. They used apricots and attached the names to the stem of the apricot. It was differnt. Of course it depends on what kind of wedding you're having... but check it out on the website.
Kate, Don't worry I will be with you guys until the end!! I am about to loose my mind!! And at the same time I am having the time of my life! I have only 26 days left and everything is going as well as can be expected. We did the finals at the hall over the weekend, and tomorrow we go over the final arrangements with the DJ, Video, and Florist! This weekend I have my hair trial, and another fitting. Seating has been a PIP to say the least, why do people believe that they do NOT have to send in their RSVP's by the date indicated??? I was so organized and did not believe that I would be running around like this at the last minute!! But I also have a little advise, leave yourself plenty of free time at the end you will need it! Also I do not know if they all do this but my hall provides the cake topper, toasting glasses and cake cutters. Good thing I waited till the last minute on this one, I am not having a cake topper because it does not really go with my cake, and I think that I have enough keepsakes from the wedding so I will use their toasting glasses and cake cutter, besides it saves a few bucks.

Stephanie Can you give more info on this? We were thinking of full size hershey bars with a personalized wrapper and including the table #--actually we are not doing #'s we are going with a theme Any info would be great Laura
I don't know what everyone is doing as far as entertainment but the cottage has a beautiful baby grand(you know that thing they put the seating cards on). I thought it was a shame not to have it played for our cocktail hour. So one of the guys from my band spent an hour playing Christmas songs etc on it. I thought it was a lovely touch and gave the cocktail hour very graceful backround music........Gina

Ok dont think we are crazy but Jeremy is really into cars- he restores old cars and his Dad owns an auto body shop so it is his whole lie(other than me!! haha) so I was thinking of a theme and my cousin came up with a car theme-- so basiucally just naming the tables a certain type of car and then having a picture of the car I know to some it wont seem like it goes with the formality of the affair(his mom doesnt like it) but I feel like it will get people to think that Jeremy had a part in this too--- We are trying to come up with as many original ideas as possible and this was one of them Laura Any more suggestions would be great--
yuck!@! that is no way to do business!! i will relay the message to my FSIL :) thanks

I don't have a theme - no bridesmaids, just a MoH who is wearing navy. The room is decorated in all white - down to the flowers. Simply stated & elegant. That's our theme.
I like the idea of naming the tables - its more fun than just "table 3".....thanks for the input!

That's a great idea. I think the guest will like it. Anything like that makes the affair more personal. We are going themes also. We travel a lot and we are using the states or places we have been. We are putting pictures of us at these places on the tables. Color copy the pictures and put them on folded cardboard, as stands. We also have brochures and maps from these places that we are putting on the tables. The place cards are still not decided yet.
You may want to use something associated with cars, car fresheners (also double as favors), find pictures of different years of the model car you are using, color copy and write or print in bold letters the names, I also think matchbox cars are a cute idea (maybe you can go to a thrift store). If you don't want the car theme to take over the reception, just use simple cards and paste a car from a magazine onto the card. If you want to make a game out of it, pick a movie that the car was in and make the guests guess what table there at. You can put the answer on the back of the card. Good luck.
Hope this helps! Stephanie, Classic Favors and Invitations

That is a good idea-- my cousin had come up with incorporating the car idea by putting them on the table but I thought that was "tacky" but giving them as placecards rather than the chocolate--now that is a cute idea Thanks Laura

What we had planned was exactly that-- each table would be a different car- he restores old cars and then create a picture/sign for the stand An idea we came up with today was to find a matchbox car/truck and put just married with our names and date on them and put in favor boxes-- we are donating money instead of buying favors so we thought we could attach the card saying this to the box-- now i am in search of finding cars in bulk!! Wish me luck!! laura
I would strongly recommend against NOT ordering your dress in the "Right length"!! There are too many possible problems that can occur. My first thought was what if they measure incorrectly or if the manufacturer cuts the dress too short. Will you have enough time to send another one, of course if it is too long they can always shorten it. The next point that I would like to bring out is that the last step in the alterations process before the bustle is the hem, I think that is because that some of the other alterations may effect the way that the hem falls. and my last point is that gaining or loosing even 5 pounds can effect the way that the dress falls and everyone says that during the last month before the wedding you loose weight because of all of the stress, I am still waiting for this one, I only have 24 days left and have not lost a pound from stress in fact I think that I have gained, which will heik the hem up. Good luck in what ever you decide to do but I would give it some serious thought the savings of $75.00-$100.00 may not be worth the hassle, if any of those things go wrong. and to answer Karen's Question. Yes most places do place a cap on alterations and the hem is included in that cap
good luck Jamelle

Found Matchbox Cars
Stephanie and Kate Thanks for the info-- def a big help!! I am going to call for the catalog-- as far as BJ's--- We belong to Price Club and havent seen them in the one we go to but will take a look next time Laura
Precana is a great concept - the Church is a community - and in very simplistic terms, PreCana is your community's way of helping you prepare for this step in your life. On so many macro & micro levels, this process is a very positive thing for the community (religious or not)....
Only a fraction of it was about spirituality - a big part are practical life stuff that applies regardless of religion - finances, future goals, running the household, children, communication, respect, expectations.....right down to who is going to cut the checks & who folds the laundry! Very practical & very worthwhile.....

Oooh. I just had an idea. I'm having my reception on a golf course, so I can name the tables 'Par 1, Par 2...'

Re: Found Matchbox Cars
We named our tables afte baseball stadiums. Scott's hobby is visiting baseball parks all over the US and photographing them. I have to scan in some of the table cards but he did an amazing job. I hate baseball and our wedding did not have anything else baseball about it BUT it was Scott's way of personalizing the event a bit and adding something of himself to the mix. Everyone loved the idea and the cards.

Re: Found Matchbox Cars
Does the hall generally make up the table place cards or will I have to do it?

Re: Creative Place Cards?
Our theme is roses. Our invites have them on it, cocktail napkins and the flowers will be roses.
The placecards (we haven't tried it yet but we've seen something like it) will be two hershey kisses (bottoms touching) and wrapped it celophane with a stick attatched and a leaf (which is where the table # will be). These will all be placed it a 'garden' w/ styrophome (sp?) on the placecard table. My sister is pretty crafty so she'll figure it out

Re: Creative Place Cards?
One idea we are toying with is having postcards with different NY City sites on them and then putting a stamp with a picture of us (martha stewart makes them) on the top corner. The to address area would of course have the name of the guest/s.

Re: Creative Place Cards?
For the tables I am having each table a deifferent hotel on the the Strip in Vegas, we are big fans of Vegas, and I hate table numbers. For the seeting cards, we are doing mini chairs whith the name and table name on them. And a sign that says 'please take you seat' (I saw it in the Martha Stewart Weddings Magazine)
