One of my best friend's brothers has it....She and her family are pretty active in one of the research foundations.

My brother was diagnosed when he was 18. He has had 2 major surgeries, the last one 9 years ago. After the last surgery, he has had no major outbreaks. He is very good about watching his diet and goes to the Dr. immediately if he has any symptoms.

One of my co-workers has it, and I recently found out that one of my cousin's has it.

I've handled some disability claims for people who have it. Sometimes it is not so bad by itself, but if a person has other health problems, the combo can be disabling.

I have been suffering since 1997. had surgery in 1998 but have not been in remission at all!!! I just recently had a Flair up so they up my med and put me on another one. HERE's the KICKER The Drug of Choice is Prednisone which is a steroid with very bad side effects. water weight gain up to 40 lbs, round fat moon face, bad Mood swings. I do not want to go back on that drug. I told my GI Dr. that with the wedding coming, I can't be put back on it. I have pictures to take and I will not FIT in my dress. It's rough!!!!

I have Crohn's also. I was just diagnosed this past summer. Pretty much the most horrible summer ever, lost 20 lbs. in a month...good fun. Thankfully, I started with a great Dr. and I'm on Asacol. If you ever want to talk, you can always FM me. Were you diagnosed recently, or you've been dealing with this for awhile?
ETA: Forget my last question, I just realized you said you were diagnosed in '97

I have Crohns. I was diagnosed at 16. So far I have avoided Pred but been on some other medications.
It's a hard disease. Have you tried Remicade? I have a few doc references if you need a second opinion.

my sister has it. She was diagnosed 2 years ago.and had 2 outbreaks this year. they sent her to mount sini hospital to see a couple of doctors there. they say thats where the doctors found crohns. but she okay for now. its very important to keep up with the diet, and tell your doctor with any pain.
