Cross you fingers for FH

Original post by Butterflyfaye

My FH has a doctor's appointment coming up this afternoon. he's so sick he hasn't been able to eat solid food since Sunday and just admitted to me he's having a hard time drinking water or breathing!

The doctor told him if he hasn't been able to drink enough, he's being admitted to the hospital..

Cross your fingers and send a bit of healing thoughts - I can't imagine FH in the hospital because a bug's gotten him that sick.

That stinks!

My best advice as for not having health insurance is go to St. Charles (if you're in suffolk county..) They have catholic health charities that you can apply for and they'll review the application and possibly pay a portion of the bill. Also, if he's in the hospital and gets admitted they will put him through to be applied for medicaid. When I was in the hospital a few months ago my room mate didn't have any insurance and she had a whole surgery. The hospital was great with her and the medicaid rep came in several times to go over everything. (I was in St. Catherines.. I would NEVER recommend their ER to anyone. Unless it's like 8am.. any other time it was a ZOO and a complete nightmare to be in)

I hope he's feeling better today; and you too!

Thanks for the info about St. Charles, I never knew that. It's actually the hospital he's closest too.

Yes defintiely look into it. The guidelines are strict and they ask for A LOT of info. 2 yrs. tax returns, bank statements, copies of all bill statements but they really look into it and depending on the income they sometimes pay in full and sometimes a portion. Either way they'll try to enroll into medicaid for at least the visit.

How's he feeling?

THanks everyone for the well wishes -

I guss it took longer than expected for the meds to work, but by mid-afternoon FH started to feel better. This evening he got to eat a full meal for the first time in a week and after a brief nap says he feels better than ever.

Now it's just me with head congestion - much better than a potential ER trip.

Thanks for the support and good info for St. Charles should there be future problems.

i hope it was just an infection.
Could it be an allergy? When my mom found out she was allergic to shell fish her throat closed up and had to go to the ER. It wasn't so bad that she couldn't breathe but it's very scary to have that feeling!

It actually was a really bad infection that had formed abscesses along his throat. He let it go too far.

He's learned his lesson - hopefully.

That's scary about your mother. I would hate to think people learn about allergies like that. I have some pretty severe allergies, but I've had them since I was so young I can't remember how I found out.
