hi all i just wanted to get your opinions on a possible cruise HM since i myself have never been on a cruise but was looking into this as an option.
Originally i really wanted to go to hawaii but that is going to cost upwards of 7k+ and FH and I are almost in contract to buy a house (which means the only money we are going to basically have is whatever we have saved in our wedding fund thus far)... so i was thinking of cheaper alternatives. i saw online that there is a cruise out of NY that goes to Puerto rico, st. thomas, st. maarten and turks and cacios... but being that i have never been on a cruise or know what it would be like i wanted to get your opinions... would you recommend this as a HM, should i look into something else? can you recommend any cheaper alternatives that possibly includes everything in the price (i figured the cruise would at least include the food and entertainment on the boat!).
Thanks!

We had wanted to try a cruise for our HM, but someone told us that they seat you with other people at dinner?? Is that true? TIA
You can request a table for two...but I wouldn't. My parents have been cruising for over 20 years and they always sit with other people...they've never had a bad experience. Everyone is usually nice or a funny character.
FH and I will be sitting with other people on the cruise, but there is a small italian restaurant on board where we plan on having one or two dinners just the two of us.

I love cruises I've left out of NJ did the Royal Caribbean Bermuda, than 9 day southern Caribbean, western Caribbean and then I left from Puerto Rico-which wasn't as relaxing leaving from NJ. You are right-there's a lot of things to do on the cruise and its very relaxing-leaving from NY or NJ usually gives you like 2 days at sea which is great to explore the boat. On RC ships they have a gameshow called love and marriage game-maybe you and your husband can be on it. They look for newlyweds!

I am going on a cruise out of Puerto Rico for our HM. I have never been but FH has been 9 times before. He knows me and said I will love it, so I am taking his word. I cant wait!

Cruises can be really nice especially if you get a bigger room with a balcony or something which I would definitely recommend for a honeymoon. I guess the only thing I would be on the fence about is whether I would do a cruise to one place, or to multiple islands. If you go to Bermuda, sometimes they dock there like another poster said and that is good because you don't feel rushed at all and really get to enjoy the island. It's also great getting to see other islands but then you have limited time there so you can't do as much - but you can definitely still do a lot and I had a great time when I went on NCL and visited Bermuda, Tortola and St. Thomas. We had a great time on every island.
The obvious downside is that you spend several days at sea not on an island. So you may want to consider an all-inclusive if you want to be on a beach somewhere with a lot of activities on land. But it's the cheapest way to see multiple islands and it's nice having the restaurants available to you every night, the dining options at least on NCL were really nice!

i am ALLLLL for cruises. ive been on 5 in the past 2.5 yrs. we try to go every 6 months or so. ive left out of ny on 4 of them and i LOVE IT.
even if u are still docks in ny, once ur on that ship, u feel like ur on vacation. its amazzzzzzzzzing. all 5 cruises have been on Norwegian. i am actually booking a Royal carribean cruise in a few min for thanksgiving. im tired of hosting every holiday every year for both families.. i love it.. but with the amount of money it costs me, id rather be on vacation. LOL! cant blame me,right?
ANYYYY questions u have dont hesitate to FM ME. im obsessed with cruises!

i heart cruises!! John and i both hve been on a few and we are doing a cruise for the second part of our HM.
i cant really see why someone wouldnt like a cruise. if you are a beach person then there is beach..if you like pools..there are pools...if you want to shop, they have shopping. if you want to do crazy excursions..they have that too.
if you request a table for 2 most cruislines will accomodate. If you get sea sick...they have the bracelet or patch you can wear but the ship doesnt feel like the small boats you normally take, you hardly feel a thing.
as a first time cruiser i wouldnt recommend a ton of stops. i would book something that has a few days at sea so you dont get too exhausted. John and i did a cruise that was like 6 stops in 8 days and it was alot.

It really depends on what you're looking for. You can end up spending more on a cruise than say an all inclusive at Sandal's or another AI resort somewhere... That being said, I've cruised a few times and really enjoyed it. We have a group of 30 - 60 ppl every year, so I'm sure that plays a part in the fun.
