Do cruise ships actually get to the ports at the exact time they say they will or is it hit-or-miss?
I want to book an excursion for 9:30am ... the cruise gets to the port at 8am supposedly ... and it's about 15 minute car-ride (and we're supposed to be there 1/2 hour early)
think it'll be ok for me to book this?
oh, i'm not booking through the cruise line so there's no 'insurance' or whatever it's called.

Re: Cruising Question
Every cruise I've ever been on has gotten to port on time. However, the last cruise I was on was delayed at customs so we weren't able to get off the ship for an hour. I would opt for a later excursion time.

Re: Cruising Question
We didn't have any problems with getting into port on time. And we had some EARLY excursions, lol.

can't do the later one because we wouldn't get back to the ship in time ... it's either this one, or see if i can find another similar one on a diff island (but this seemed best based on the reviews)

I've been on so many cruises and I don't think we were ever late at a port. Unless there is a bad storm or something you should be fine.

Re: Cruising Question
95% of the time they get in on time or early. BUT I was on a cruise recently that hit bad weather and couldn't pull into one of the ports and we were stuck on the boat - if you weren't booked for an excursion through the cruiseline itself you weren't getting your money back for that port.

Do you absolutely need a reservation for it? Like maybe you could call up that morning once you know you'll be there on time?

Re: Cruising Question
I've been on many cruises and they are often early or on time... I've never had an issue with early morning excursions. They sometimes also offer earlier departures from the ship for people who have planned excursions.
*IF* they should be late, and you can't do it they will refund you
