So did you ladies want to be suprised or did you give FH some guidance towards your e-ring?
I dropped hints about what i like, I like round solitares - there are some diamond cuts that I don't like so I wanted FH to know that I prefer a round brilliant cut.
The only thing I came right out and told him was that he wasn't to spend more than $2,000 - I told if he wanted to spend more than that to put it against my student loans
ETA: I forgot to add that FH is an awesome job, I couldn't love my ring more

He knew I wanted a princess cut, but ultimately he surprised me. I got the cut I wanted, but the overall ring is fantastic and much more than I thought of. I liked that he added his own special touch.

I didnt tell FH anything about the ring I wanted. The one he picked is absolutely perfect and I couldnt have picked it better myself

We went shopping together and I gave him a couple of choices and he picked the one that he thought that I would like best and it turns out that he picked my favorite.

We went shopping together. I didn't want to, I wanted to be surprised but he insisted. I do love my ring. It is the best, but I would have been happy with anything if he had surprised me.

I would have been happy with anything from him too, although, it was cool to see that he listened, I only mentioned the round solitare thing once

We went shopping together to get some idea of what I would like best or even what he would like me to have......But in the end it was all his choice and he did a great job!!!!

I had no idea that FH was going to propose. When we first began dating, he told me upfront that he was not the marrying type. It didn't bother me, I could have left him at that point.
He surprised the heck out of me when he proposed with a ring that fit my finger. He shopped for it with a little help from a female friend, and shocked her when he remembered my ring size. He did good !

We went shopping together... basically it was like window shopping. he saw what I liked and the types of rings i gravitated towards.... I did not specifically pick it out....
he noticed what type of setting, etc. i liked and he did the rest...i was totoally surprised!!!

Re: Cuiosity poll :-D
this is hysterical...the first time FH and I ever hung out, he went shopping with me at a mall and he dragged me to a jewelry store and we were goofing around talking about e rings (on our FIRST date!!) i told him i wanted the smallest stone, on the thinnest band (i'm NOT a bling-y jewlery type of person) so he must've known what his intentions were! such a sweetie! lol

Re: Cuiosity poll :-D
It started out as a joke..he traveled to Israel for work all the time, so once I said...hey, if you are shopping for my engagement diamond there...i think i'd like a round cut or square emerald. (his friend there is a dealer & he had already gotten me stud earrings). To which he replied, well which of the two would you want? Which i decided on the Square Emerald, only to find out so many issues with it being confused with Asscher cut..sooo i proceeded to make him this handy shopping card to help him..haha (yes, i am a geek). I went looking at settings with a friend, and he worked with her to get my ring made & suprise me. I love the stone he picked & the fact he got it all done behind my back.
I tried to tell him, but he didn't want to hear it!!!! He did a great job all by himself!!!

Re: Cuiosity poll :-D
I mentioned my preference ONCE in passing years and years ago. He went and did all the reseach and shopping by himself. He did such a fantastic job--I was completely shocked! Months after he got the ring, we were x-mas shopping and buying a present for my mom at a jewelry store and he was asking me how I liked certain rings. He did it to make sure I would like what he picked out.

I told him I wanted something simple and not gold. Funny thing is, he bought the exact ring I would have chosen had I gone shopping myself!

Re: Cuiosity poll :-D
We had actually gone shopping together. I really wanted something simple. The good thing was every place we went to they fit. He didn't have to worry about the size, I'm a 7.
I did find one that wasn't typical, but it was hard to find a matching wedding band. I may get that one for our 1st Anniversary. I love my ring and wouldn't change a thing.

same here ... he knew that i liked princess cut as the center stone .. he also knew that I liked baguettes. He got me what I wanted plus more - and i was completely surprised and couldnt have picked out a prettier ring myself!
