I was talking to my mom last night about dress shopping and she tentatively told me she may wear a traditional korean dress for the ceremony.
It's a tradition for the MOB and MOG to wear one but FH isn't korean so basically, it'll just be my mom wearing it (the fathers just wear suits) and I'm afraid she will stick out in a totally random way. I'm very americanized so there isn't going to be any other korean influences in my wedding so I feel like the costume would be like and my non korean guests won't understand.
Should I even care? I also think it will be a waste of money since these cost at least $1000 and she will be changing for the reception part.
Lol, I guess my question is:
All you non korean people, would you think a little korean lady in some bright a$$ costume be completely random/interesting/fill in the blank?

Re: Cultural Question Re: Mum wear
if your mom wants to do it, i would let her! if i went to your wedding, i wouldn't think it was odd that your mom was wearing that, i would just assume it was part of your culture.
if it makes mama happy, i say let her wear the costume

I agree, if it is important for your mom to wear I don't think it would be a big deal. Your guests obviously know you are of Korean decent and I would think they would realized it is part of your culture.

I'm going to have to agree with the ladies on this one. If it's important to your mom to wear the dress then let her. If people don't understand who cares - you will know what it means and she will be happy.

I think it would be nice. Fhs dad is Hindu and we are honoring him by including a hindu tradition into our ceremony. We are also adding all of the Italian and Hindu traditions that we will be doing in the ceremony to our programs. I thought it might be nice for guests to understand the significance of the traditions we are having.

ITA. I think it's a great idea to have part of your family's culture involved in your wedding somehow!

I'm not adding much, but I agree with the other ladies. If it means something to your mom than let her have at it.

I agree with the other girls also... And if I was at a ceremony and I knew the bride was korean, I would not be confused by her mom wearing that. I would assume it's some kind of tradition

Re: Cultural Question Re: Mum wear
no if she wore it and she look Korean i would totally assume it was custom.
if she was a little blond lady i may scratch my head a little LOL
I'm hispanic and the wearing white to a wedding isn't really an issue. but it's an issue to Americans so I warned my family members not to wear white, cause i don't want an American scandal LOL

i think if your mom is the only one and you're not having any other korean influences, it dosent make much sense, but if you're mom really wants to its no big deal
