Can anyone recommend a great stylist who knows how to cut & style curly hair? It's hard to find a stylist who has curly hair and/or knows how to work with it. Preferrably in Suffolk, but any suggestions anywhere are appreciated - thanks so much.

My suggestion is to travel to the city. I don't think anyone on LI really knows how to properly cut and style curly hair. I recently started going to someone on LI after going to the city for 4 years and am regretting it. I'm heading back. It's worth the expense and time traveling. If you're interested below are two Salons in the city who specialize in curly hair and are fabulous.
Thanks - you know I am considering trying the city. There is a salon called Devachan - they make these amazing products I've been using. I'm just nervous about going somewhere new. The owner of the salon wrote a book called Curly girl & it just gives you these awesome tips on how to work with your hair. Now I just want to get a good cut. Thanks so much for the tips.

I have a friend who knows someone who goes there...it's so funny...it's like you become part of this cult...ok bad choice of words...more like club! People out of nowhere find you start touching and talking about your curls...very scary!
Ouidad wrote a book too. She trained quite a bit of stylist that are out there now. Christo was actually her head stylist when I started going there back in 2001, but left a couple of years ago to start his own salon and it's taken off like crazy! It's such a great atmosphere compaired to Quidad's place. I work with Robert. He's FABULOUS!!! SO MUCH FUN! I highly recommend you make an appt with him.
They probably all use the same cutting techinique called carving and slicing. I think Quidad 'invented' it and the other perfected it. Styling is so crucial. I could go on forever... FM me with any questions.

You're right it's like a club!! HA HA. It gets obsessive. But I must say I'm addicted to the Devachan products. She pushes no shampoo - first I was like GROSS!! But you know what, my hair has never looked better. They make a shampoo that is not actually shampoo (sounds nuts, I know). But I mainly use conditioner to wash my hair & my hair feels so much better & looks better. I want to go to her salon & try it one day. I will need to take out a loan, ha ha...it's so funny how much we spend on hair. But I guess even if I get a good 'starting' cut it will last & I can see how long before I need to go back. I checked out those websites you gave me, thanks. The Christo salon looks awesome. I heard of Ouidad & had thought of trying it until I found out about the Deva products. I found her book very good & she didn't push her products on you in the book.

Same here with the shampoo! I shampoo probably once or twice a week the most, but use a daily conditioner everyday. Wide tooth comb....blah blah blah... People without curly hair have no clue. I had a friend come over and ask to borrow my brush...Brush? What's that? You will NEVER see a brush touch this hair thank you very much!

YES! I cannot recommend my hairstylist enough... I spent years having a huge frizzy mess until I went to her. My hair is long, thick as hell, and curly. She knows her stuff. Her name is Michelle from Ultissma in Albertson. 516 484 0220 I've been going to her for about 8 years

I got my hair cut at the Devachan salon yesterday for the first time. It was amazing. It made me realize that I've never had my hair cut properly before. Use Dennis - you won't regret it! FM if you want more info
