Custom-made Bridal Gowns

Hello everyone, As many of you know I am having a nightmare trying to find a dress because I recently went through gastric bypass surgery which has resulted in a large weight loss (which will continue until my wedding in November). I have already gone down 4 dress sizes in 11 weeks. So...I need to find a bridal dressmaker. Any suggestions? I am willing to travel to Queens, Nassau or Suffolk (even further for the right person). Thanks for your help!

Custom-made Bridal Gowns

I met one time with a woman named Karin Yngvesdotter. Her name was recommended by a few ppl on this board. She was extremely pleasant to deal with and did say she'd make alterations up to a week before the wedding if needed. Also she's not charging me more than what a salon dress would cost. I am going to use her to custom make my dress maily b/c I couldn't find exactly what I wanted in the salons and I too would need lots of alterations being petite. Well good luck...oh her website by the way is www.yngvesdotter.com. -A

Karin Yngvesdotter is also making my dress.

If you want to compare dress makers. There is another woman about three blocks away from Karin. Her name is Helena and you can find her info. on the weddingchannel. com - New York board. They are both located on Steinway Street in Astoria, Queens. I am using Karin and I would definitely recommend her but just in case you want someone to compare her to you can also try Helena.

My Daughters Wedding in Great Neck

I just went there for my mom's dress and found out that not only do they sell Bridal gowns but they also custom make them. They are REALLY nice people and are completrely reconstructing a dress for my mom. They have lots of photos of their dresses and their work looks fabulous. Check them out - they are on Middle Neck Rd. just 1 block south of the train station. Good luck!

Re: Custom-made Bridal Gowns

Yon from my Daughter's Wedding is making my dress as well.

My sister was married in August and Yon custom made our bridal dresses. My sister also bought her dress from there. They are accomodating and do really nice work. My sister had absolutely no problems.

Yon is really helpful and a great seamstress...I would trust My Daughter's Wedding!
