Cutting my puppy's hair...

We have a shihtzu...and the vet has told us that she is too young yet to bring her in for professional grooming...but her hair is a mess!!! is it safe to give her a trim ourselves??? just around her eyes and feet maybe...

FMIL uses a flowbie (sp?) on her dog. I have no idea where you get them or how much they are but she uses it all the time. Oh! You can just walk around the block and ask her to borrow it!
