Re: Cycle Day 3 blood work - what is done?
Normally Day 3 blood is to test your FSH level, and estradiol.... in other words to measure your ovarian reserve and egg quality. Make sure you aren't menopausal :)
Since this is the start of them investigating your situation....they may do a series of blood tests.
Your thyroid definitely needs to be checked....that's your TSH level, T3 and T4. Your TSH level(thryoid stimulation hormone) should be between .5-2 in the first trimester, however, your T3 and T4 count are actually even more important......Make sure they are using a sensitive test.....because many people with thyroid conditions go unfound because the tests are not testing everything they should. Many times, that's the cause of miscarriage or lack of ovulation. Your thyroid controls so much, it's basically one of the head leaders of your endocrine system...pituitary gland speaks directly to the thyroid and you know if the boss is messed up ....the whole operation will fail :) .....Your thryoid gland pours all it's secretions into your bloodstream which goes directly to all your organs. The thyroid gland controls metabolism in every cell of the body, and regulates the rate at which the body utilizes oxygen and controls the rate at which various organs function and the speed with which the body utilizes food. Something that I just learned, was that ,....estrogen and your thyroid are at war,....just as progesterone and estrogen are. Therefore, it can cause a person to be estrogen dominant if your thyroid is not kicking estrogen's butt. That can cause your progesterone level to be low...and making it impossible for implantation or a healthy pregnancy.
They can also test for prolactin level....prolactin is what causes the mammory glands to secrete milk. If you have an excessive amount of prolactin, you could possibly be without ....AF ...men who have excessive prolactin could have decreased sperm production.
Hmmm then of course, they can test for HIV, and STDs. Genetic Blood Panel...to see if you are carriers of cystic fibrosis and other genetic diseases.
Basically when I go for day 3, they just test for FSH/estrodoil and do a vaginal sonogram. The sonogram to make sure there are no cysts.......

WOW Information heaven! Thanks SO SO MUCH!! I was thinking about just FMing you directly and ask questions but you were so helpful already I didn't want to bug you again.
Thank you thank you!!! Sure is a ton of stuff they will test for. Thyroid problems run in my family so I'd be happy (I guess LOL) if that was all it was.
I didn't think I'd be saying this bt I can't wait til AF comes...to just start the tests!!
