Does the father of the bride traditionally wear the same tuxedo ensemble as the groomsmen?

Re: Dad's Tuxedo?
My father did not wear the same tux. In fact, he didn't want to rent anything, so he went out and bought a brand new tux, shoes and everything else.
DH had a regular tie and vest but my dad wanted to be traditional.

My father had the same tuxedo as the guys - but his vest was a different color

I think usually they are similar to the groomsmens but they don't have to be in my opinion-as long as they are in a tux that is all I care about!

I dont think it is a rule that the fathers have to match the bridal party. It is an optional deal. If your father owns his own tuxedo, he could always wear it.
Unless your groomsmen are wearing ultra formal attire such as cutaways and ascots (my father did in the 50s - looked awesome - top hats too) then the father doesnt need to match.

If your father is walking you down the aisle, it is appropriate for him to be dressed as part of the wedding party, matching the groomsmen.
