Daily Diaries of those on the South Beach Diet!

*edited to add: This thread is now for all those on the SBD! Complain/vent/announce/ask questions here!

So far, so good, although I need to eat more for dinner - last night I was hungry again my 9 PM.

I'm a carb freak, but I figure for 2 weeks, I can go without eating ANY carbs. I know the 2nd phase you can't eat too many, but at least it's a bit more reasonable.

Does anyone have any recommendations on snacks for Phase 1? I brought in cheese to work, but I'm looking for other ideas.

How is everyone else doing on the SBD so far?

Good luck! I was on it for a while and lost about 6 pounds which was great since I had been in a slump. I went off for vacation and gained 3. I'm starting back up again and I'm a carb fanatic too! I had gotten a million recipes from prevention.com website and it makes the diet so much easier! I might stay on the no carb week until I get to my goal! I love the recipes, like cheddar stuffed hamburgers, YUM!

I'll see if I can find the link for the free e-book that someone is selling on ebay! (SHHH! )

Teri - this is my second day on SBD as well.

Yesterday I brought cheeses, today almonds as a snack. I am trying to stick with this!

Teri, day 2 for me too. Yesterday about 6pm was not good for me - I fell off the wagon - but rebounded for dinner (chicken and veggies). Today so far so good.

I love cheese so for a snack I'm all over that.
But I didn't have any today so I brought in celery and fat free cream cheese. Doesn't sound too appetizing but who knows I might like it.

Good luck!

Re: Starting my second day on the South Beach Diet!

too funny - how many of us started yesterday?!

I had forgotten nuts was ok so I went out and bought some for a snack later

Not sure about sugar free candy though - just to take the edge off at times I bought hard candy (sugar free) that has 13 grams of carbs - so now I wonder if it's okay?

That cheddar burger sounds delicious! I'll definitely check out that website later - thanks!

Re: Starting my second day on the South Beach Diet!

You are allowed sugar free candies - up to 75 calories a day!

i would stay away from the sugar free hard candy if they have 13 gr of carbs!!!

I snacked on string cheese...nuts...PB cookies (1 c PB, 1 c splenda, 1 egg)...cold cut rolls

just remember its only 2 weeks...and the cravings will go away soon...

you don't even want to know the temptations I've had at work - everyone has a huge bowl of awesome halloween candy at their desks, and I pass by them 1000 times a day!!!

But I think of all the good I've done, and it's not worth it. I instead have one sugar free candy, and that seems to work a little.

Still is tough though!!

Re: Starting my second day on the South Beach Diet!

We should change the thread to the SBD thread LOL

Day 3 - guess what...NO CRAVINGS FOR CARBS! Sorry for yelling but you have no idea how happy that makes me. Granted I was in a training session for 2 hours but still. I used to snack at 11am and today - I just didn't!

The only thing is that I've had a few cups of sugar free cocoa (no milk added) and caffeine free diet coke. I need to get back into water drinking.

I hope I lose some weight. I weighed myself this a.m. and it said nothing came off. Bah

Mari - good idea - I just changed the name of the thread

I am actually surprised I'm not craving sugar and carbs as much as I thought I'd be. I have a whole loaf of bread at home, as well as boxes of pasta, etc, and don't really think much of it as I pass by.

My concern is more for how I do on Phase 3....I finished the book last night and although you can eat carbs in moderation, the dr's small blurbs of others on the diet in teh book only mention 'a piece of a roll here and there, etc' - whaaaa??? I can't handle that long term I wonder how realistic this will be (for me at least) long term, since I still really enjoy delicious bread.

I've always considered myself a sweet tooth and surprisingly, that was easiest to give up! (still hard when I see candy, but I don't think about it otherwise)

Re: Daily Diaries of those on the South Beach Diet!

another thought I had on this: What about vegarians who'd like to do this diet? I'd say it's much harder for anyone who doesn't not eat meat (even worse for those that don't eat dairy!).

I'm not a huge meat eater and to be honest have a hard time getting the meat down at times Maybe that's what brought me here in the first place - I'd eat my carbs and veggies all day instead

I wonder what the typical day of a vegatarian is on this diet?

Re: Daily Diaries of those on the South Beach Diet!

Well, I have wonderful news. When I was on vacation, I drank beer every night, ate pasta, bread, pizza, pancakes, everything not allowed by any means on the diet. I went from 134 to about 139. Today I weighed myself and after being back on the south beach for 2 days I am down to 135 again!
YAY! From the websites I posted earlier it has been so easy to stick to phase 1 (though I do cheat here and there)

What I was intending to say here though, is that I totally ignore how people in the blurbs say 'i have never had a dinner roll at a restaurant again' NO WAY! If dinner rolls were on the menu, I would order them for my appetizer, entree and a side of pasta! But I will say one thing, after reading the book, I'm not as tempted by it at all. It makes so much sense about the lack of nutrition after being processed etc.
My goal is not to completely give up everything I love, but to understand why I should eat it in moderation. Just the same way I came to understand why I can't eat McDonald's fries every day for lunch, but I can treat myself when I'm out- I won't snack on bread anymore, but will have it when I go to a restaurant or as part of a larger meal. To me, that's the goal of this book.
What do you guys think?

Teri- for protein do you eat cheeses, nuts, peanut butter? The whole thing is not to just eat the good carbs because the fats/proteins help slow down the breakdown of the carbs.

I think that once we rid our bodies/minds of the breads/potatos/pasta - we won't want to have any. So having a little won't be a problem. I'd rather not have it at all!

PS: have you ever had whole wheat pasta? It's good - I can't tell the difference!

Re: Daily Diaries of those on the South Beach Diet!

I do eat peanut butter but haven't yet been able to since I'm still in Phase one.

It is true that I don't crave carbs as much, so I hope that keeps, but I agree that it's unrealistic to never have them again!

I did buy whole wheat pasta but haven't yet tried it - I can't wait to, when I'm finally 'allowed'!
