Damn it! My boss just quit - there goes my career plan

Damn it all to hell and back. The whole reason for taking this job was security and future. With my boss leaving (like today, already gone) I have no real future. I mean Im overqualified for my job, I knew that and so did he when I was hired, but I wanted to go back to college so he was cool with that.

The conditions were I went back to school in 2 years and didnt promote for 2 years.

Problem: With him gone, Im a HUGE liability to the team. Im the second third newest. I get paid way too much for my job.. BAH!

Sorry, Xel, that sucks! Maybe they'll promote you to his position?? Wishful thinking?

Im a simple Insurance Assistant.. That level is Senior VP. Just hoping who ever takes his job knows me (hoping for internal promotion) not an outsider who thinks im 'JUST' an Insurance Assistant.

I was a Senior Claim Rep/Claim Manager at my old job and before that I was Senior Account Excutive for an smaller company.

I took a whole lotta of steps down to become an insurance assistant so that I could concentrate on going back to school. The key is that im still getting paid more than I was before. I got a $5,200 increase in pay to take this job. I have seven years of diverse insurance experience and 3 professional designations.

BUT NO COLLEGE DEGREE

My office is HUGE on that degree. They hired a girl (who sits next to me) who - bless her soul- is really sweet but has NO insurance experience at all, just a college degree. She gets paid only $3,000 less than me (i know this based on the basic salary here for college grads). $3k less but she has a better title than me and can move up.

No college degree really puts me in a bad spot.

I work for a very large insurance broker.

My title is Insurance Assistant in International Casualty.

My job is interacting with our offices overseas in regards to our clients that are US Based with overseas exposure. I also interact with local insurance carriers to market, price and place coverage for those overseas risks.

It's an ok job.. pretty high paced but nothing too demanding that I can't handle.
