I'm having a DJ at the wedding (I like the original version of songs) and originally I decided not to have the light show because I thought it might look cheesy. We're using Starlight Express and the demo of their light show wasn't that bad, but I just worried about it looking too night club-y for FH's conservative family.
My question is: what does the dance floor look like without a light show? Is it just dimmed lights or does the hall do something usually? Is it boring without lights and not conducive to getting people to dance?
Second question: is a light show a little cheesy and not something to have at a formal wedding (we're not doing black tie, but it will be black tie optional).
Thanks!

Re: Dance Floor -- Lights or No Lights?
From what our dj described, it's lighting on the dance floor but it's just not flashing and blinking at all.... I really didn't want any lights, but he suggested this instead of not having any at all because it would put a little focus on the dance floor. He said that if we didn't like it, it's something he could easily cut out right away so I feel comfortable. You should definitely ask your dj about it... :)

I'm having a full light show -- total party atmosphere. In MY opinion, it doesn't take away from the 'elegance' of my wedding, nor does it make it 'cheesy'.

We are also having ambiance lighting...I don't want anything that will turn my wedding into a 'club atmosphere' we told them that they are to keep the lighting to a minimum (the lighting was in the package we wanted) and that it should in no way be flashing or overpowering. Basically we just want it to empahsize the dance area in a modest way.
