Dance Lessons Frustration

Dance Lessons Frustration

I just have to vent about the dissapointment I've had with a local dance company. FH & I wanted to learn how to dance for our first dance and so I called up this company to ask them if they could teach us a 'choreographed first dance'. I told them specifically I wanted to learn dips and twirls and things to do to our music.
They told us 'no problem', but they might teach us some other types of dances as well. We went in for a discounted first lesson which introduced us to staff who were very friendly. They listened to our music and reassured us that by our wedding we would be excellent at our first dance. So next they took us into a room with the manager who gave us a package for around $765 and we accepted with the understanding we would be learning our first dance mainly and 'a couple extra dances'.
Anyways, week after week we went to private lessons & group lessons and they taught us the very very basic moves of like 10 different dances! We brought up several times, that we didn't understand why we weren't practicing OUR dance more, and were again reassured that they would get to it. We danced to our song 1 time out of all the lessons in our $760 package, and now we are down to one lesson left and haven't at all learned how to dip or twirl and only know the basic steps of our dance. They took us into the room again this week and said our instructor put together a program for us for our wedding....and that now we could become excellent dancers for $5600! Asked us if we wanted to pay it now or in installments.
FH & I just feel completely misled and annoyed. In the meantime we are finding a different instructor to teach us a choreographed dance, which is all we wanted to begin with....

Yeah its aggravating.... I mean it was fun learning the basic steps of the other dances, however this isn't really what we told them we wanted and not what we thought we were paying for.....and they did not teach us our first dance.

That really stinks I'm so sorry. Check your paperwork if they didn't deliver their end of the bargain you could be entitled to a refund...

Do you have a contract stating that you were supposed to learn YOUR dance?
threaten to take them to court.
not for nothing but THAT is A LOT of money... I'm a dance instructor and have never heard ANYONE paying THAT much money for two people for 10 lessons...

could you FM me the name of the company?

They will never teach you 'your' first dance during group lessons.

Dance schools also sometimes won't teach your 'your' first dance in reg. private lessons. You have to schedule specific wedding dance lessons.

Thanks for the support everyone. We have found a different instructor now, its just too bad we didn't have the info on this company earlier to avoid spending tons of money and not learning our first dance as promised. After further researching this company, I've come to realize they have a reputation for preying on wedding couples.

That's ridiculous. I would definitely report them to BBB. Are we not allowed to state the name of companies like this? I feel like if I had this experience I would post their name. Don't know if there is a rule about this.

not sure about the rules, but if you FM me i'll gladly share it with you.
