Hi all- my wedding will begin at 11:30 am on a Sunday in June. Reception from 1 - 5. what do you think? do people feel like dancing in the afternoon? i have lots of fun guests who i'm sure will.....and i will if even i am up there alone! what are your thoughts? i'd like it to start off relaxing (ceremony on the water, string quartet) but i am hoping it gets at least a little crazy!should i stop giving it a second thought?

Re: dancing at an afternoon wedding?
Every afternoon wedding I've been to has dancing, and I've been one of the many on the dance floor. Don't worry about it, just go ahead and get whatever DJ/band you want. You're guests will party like it's a Saturday night!

I don't think you have to worry.
You know the quote in movie 'Field of Dreams'.... you build it, they will come.
Well, if you play music, they will dance.

I'm having a Sunday afternoon wedding too, so I certainly hope people dance in the afternoon!
Seriously, I've been to a few Sunday afternoon weddings, and there was absolutely no problem getting people on the dance floor... never fear

Re: dancing at an afternoon wedding?
My brothers wedding had the same time frame. We all danced the day away. He just needed the DJ though (or band if you prefer). No lights needed, nor the hand-outs. It was fun! Don't worry, people are going to dance if there is music playing.

Re: dancing at an afternoon wedding?
I'll reiterate what everyone else said.
there's no rule that people will only get on the dance floor unless its the evening! as long as you play great music and have a good Dj or band, people will get out there even if its 11am!!
(and heck, give everyone a few drinks and they'll be doing a conga line b/f you know it! LOL .. J/K )

Re: dancing at an afternoon wedding?
I have always felt awkward dancing at an afternoon wedding...but I think that was mostly b/c of the DJ and not so much the time of day.

Re: dancing at an afternoon wedding?
I have been to a lot of afternoon weddings and there was always a lot of dancing going on. Don't worry. People who dance at weddings will dance no matter what time of day it is.

One of the best weddings I ever went to was a Sunday afternoon wedding- the dance floor was PACKED! Your guests will have a great time and so will you!!!

Re: dancing at an afternoon wedding?
Don't worry, pick fun music and make sure to get up there and have fun yourself. Almost all l of the afternoon weddings I've been to have had packed dance floors in the afternoon. The only exception was because the bride didn't want 'that type of music' played. Its really more the mood , the music, and the atmosphere that get everyone up.

I'm sure they will...I have a FANTASTIC DJ (Body Rock) and I will pull people onto the dance floor with me if I have to!

Re: dancing at an afternoon wedding?
I just think it is the dj/band you have. We went to a wedding where the dj was TERRIBLE!!!! He kept announcing the entire time 'This is our last wedding. We will not be dj'ing weddings anymore' We were like thank god! And they only played one type of music the entire afternoon.
