Dancing- Crazy idea?

My FH made me promise to not mention this to any of our friends b/c he wants it to be a surprise if we end up doing it, but I figured I could still ask here!

My FH and I are both perform for a living and we actually met as dance partners in a show. People expect us to do things a bit unconventionally since we usually do, but so far we have been pretty traditional in our wedding planning.

But, we had this idea that it might be cool if we could do our first dance to an old standard song like the Way You Look Tonight- and in the middle of it, the tempo would pick up and we would surprise everyone by doing a big Fred and Ginger kind of dance instead of the traditional slow dance. We are having a hard time deciding. We think it might be a little corny, but that our friends and family would really get a kick out of it and it might be a way for us to do something a little out there.

Any thoughts on this idea? My only reservation is that we might sacrifice the romance of a first dance as a slow dance. THANKS FOR READING

I think that sounds awesome! I wish we could do the same!!! Go for it, especially if friends and family are expecting it!

Are you kidding? You are SOOO lucky to be able to do this. Scott and I are taking dance lessons to be able to do a nice first dance- but Fred and Ginger we are NOT. Please do this- and show us all the video! There is nothing more romantic than dancing with the man you love- fast or slow.

One thing- just consider your gown when you reherse. It will probably make some of the moves not as simple as usual.

I think it makes it totally romantic because you can do it! We are taking lessons & working really hard to have a fun first dance. I think you guys should go for it!

Thanks - I am glad you like the idea! we couldnt decide if it would be lame or not, but you are making me think we should go for it!
how are the first dance lessons going so far for you? what kind of stuff are you learning?

It's a great idea. If I could do it, I definitely would. Your guests will love it. It would only be lame if you couldn't dance.

You should definitely do it!! What a treat for your guests! And what a memorable thing for your video! If you want a more traditional, romatic dance, you could always do a spotlight dance after the cake cutting...

You should definitely do it, it will be romantic because that's how you got together in the first place. If I was a guest I would enjoy seeing this.

If you can't decide.. maybe you can have just a slow dance and at a later time bust out and do your thang!

You should do it! Your guests will love it. We actually had two songs together, our wedding song-
Beautiful in My Eyes (Joshua Kadison) and then I dedicated a song to him- By Your Side (Sade). If you want that 'romantic momment' you could have a second song to dance slow to later in the evening.
