When I was looking for reception sites I came across Coindre Hall. I really loved it until I saw the two seperate rooms (1 for dinner 1 for dancing). It may be typical to some but I think part of the good time for the non-dancers is watching the dancers. Not only that, it's rare my entire (huge) family is together in one place for something (besides funerals), I wanted everyone to be together in the same room.

Re: dancing in one room & dinner in another?
Yes, In MD my labmate had a wedding at the cloisters. There were two rooms, each serving dinner and a dancefloor in the first room. So while some people danced and ate in the same room, we ate dinner in one room and danced in another. It was different. I can't tell if I danced less because of it, though. I wore these gorgeous heels and my feet were numb by the end of the night. So my lack of dancing could have just been the shoes.
Personally, I would rather everyone be in the same room. Plus, this way no one will miss your first dance, or your cake cutting. With my labmate's first dance and mother son dance, most people were just watching on from the other room. It wasn't ideal.

Re: dancing in one room & dinner in another?
I have never been to a wedding that did this, but I went to a friend's wedding at the Crescent Beach Club, and they have the bar in a completely separate room, I can honestly say that FH, I and most of our friends, along with most of the younger crowd were out in the Bar so we missed, the first dance, cake cutting, father / daughter dance.
IMO I also think that the older crowd or the non-dancer crowds will feel left out of the fun, because they would stay in the room with the seat

at my venue, there is a terrace & that's wherethe dance floor is, however people eat around it (the sweetheart, dais & FIL's will be seated around it. The place has french glass doors that open to it, so the room flows seemlessly, I'm not worried about it. ALthough my ch will be on a different floor.

I went to a wedding at Sayville Country Club that had this. I found it extremely annoying. The DJ kept having to gather everyone to get up, go to the dance floor and watch the special dances and stuff.
It was kind of annoying as a guest.

Yes I have! It was in Rhode Island - and it seemed so strange to me. Plus the room they had the dancing in was tiny for the amount of people at the wedding.

Ours is kind of like that. It's a mansion style wedding so we use a few different rooms of the mansion.
During dinner you are sitting in a different area then where you dance.
But, the dance ballroom is where we'll have dessert.
I went to a wedding like that 2 years ago and I loved the set-up so we wanted to do it for ours too.

Yes, I was at a wedding at Coindre Hall, and they had dinner in one room and dancing in another. I didn't like that at all....We missed the first dance and the anniversary dance because we were hanging out at the table. There was also a lot less people on the dancefloor than there should have been. I know the bride was pretty upset about it......IMO I would stay away from that set up.

I'm doing the same exact thing at the same place. I love the idea of it and most people I tell really think it is a great idea.

Re: dancing in one room & dinner in another?
I've been to these type of weddings. Just keep in mind that the first two hours or so of the reception there won't be too much dancing going on. Maybe just listening and schmoozing music should be played.
I actually enjoyed these weddings since you don't get up a start and stop..you get to enjoy dinner and chatting and mingling and then dancing and partying later..

I went to look at West Sayville CC and it was like this, it seemed kind of awkward IMO. It could work-it's just not ideal for me.

I had my wedding here and my guests actually liked it because it wasn't like you had to scream at each other to have a conversation like you have to most of the time at 'typical' catering halls. And you only have to get up once to see the father-daughter and mother-son dance which is accompanied by the cutting of the cake. My dance with DH was at the begining of the night so everyone was already in the dance room which was also where the cocktail hour was.
At a mansion wedding you always run the risk of someone missing something because there are a number of rooms that the guests can hang-out in. But, it's different and my guests raved about my reception.

Re: dancing in one room & dinner in another?
Sans Souci and West Sayville CC have it, and honestly, unless you have a guaranteed dancing crowd, or oar fine with people not dancing, I wouldn't do it.
There was a gorgeous hall upstate (where I got married) that had that setup, and I wouldn't even go look at it because I wanted to have my sweetheart table at the end of the dancefloor.....

Re: dancing in one room & dinner in another?
I went to a wedding at the Garden of the Gods in Colarado that had half the guests seated inside (where the dance floor and DJ was) and half the guests seated outside. It was a bit awkward because those outside (i.e. myself and FH) were kind of left out of everything. I don't think I would have minded the two separate rooms for dinner/dancing, as long as all of the guests were sitting together. HTH!

Re: dancing in one room & dinner in another?
Sans Souci doesnt have a separate room per se for dinner and dancing, but their tables are not surrounding the dance floor like other catering halls. There is one room, but the tables are on a low elevated platform to one side and the dance floor and bar are on the other side. There are no walls separating the two areas. Personally, and this is all about personal choice, I like that the tables are separate from the dance floor. That way people that dont want to dance are not spread out around the dance floor. and every thing feels more intimate.
