That was how mine was at Atlantis Marine World around the shark tank in that room were the tables and were the big shark is on the wall by the bridge in that room was the dancing and DJ!! It was great because you could still see what was going on in both room and you didn't have to yell to each other in the dining room area!!

I wrote a whole post about this before, but it didn't show!!
Anyway, our wedding was like that and it worked out great for our particular venue (a winery). We were married in the afternoon (3:30) and then we had the cocktail hour and the dinner outside on the dining terrace. Everyone got to mingle and converse. Then the dancing was inside the tasting room (large glass French doors opened up out to the dining terrace from the tasting room) and everyone basically moved inside to dance, or to just hang out, chat, and sip wine! It had gotten dark outside anyway, so people naturally moved inside. It didn't feel weird or awkward in anyway, and people didn't just sit at the tables (like they sometimes do when dancing is going on). Everyone--for the most part, except some of the older folks who wanted to enjoy the quieter outdoors!--joined us in the tasting room.

I went to a wedding at the Atlantis Marie Aquarium that was like this. The only thing I could say is that it made the reception more like a banquet/sit down dinner event rather, rather than a reception. Not too many people danced but it was nice for people to sit and chat for an evening.

This is true at Atlantis.

yes, my cousin had his reception at some big mansion in Manhattan and this is how it was set up. i preferred it because i could actually sit down and have a conversation with someone instead of screaming over the music. too bad JT isn't set up this way...
