Dancing with Brother-in-Law in honor of mother passed
I don't have any parents, so no father/daughter dance for me. I'm thinking about asking my Brother-In-Law to dance to Bette Midler's - Wind Beneath my Wings, in honor of my grandmother (mom, as I always knew her) who raised me. She was a mother to me but she died when I was 13. I just debating on it because I'm sure I will get very emotional.

If you'd be able to handle it, I'm sure it would be beautiful and he'd feel very honored.

Yes, it's my sister's husband. Well, she's not my sister by blood but she has been there for me as a sister since I was 11. She knew my grandmother and was very close to her too.

I know I am probably going to cry if I do it but it seemd like such a nice way to honor her. I'll have the DJ make an announcement that this dance is dedicated to my grandmother.

to honor your grandmother when you have no parents? its just another idea, if she is like your sister that would be the next closest person to you, i think that would be very appropriate and sweet.....whomever you choose i think thats really nice to honor her.....you could also dedicate your bo-k to her instead of throwing it.....you take the mic and say a few words about her? just other options you could consider

Those are good ideas!
Yes, I choose to honor her even though I have no parents. She took me when I was about 3 years old. We moved from New York to Florida. My father died when I was 6 but I don't really remember him. I never knew my real mother. I only know her name because it's on my birth certificate. I have no idea what the story with her is. I was raised to believe my grandmother was my mother. I really only found out she was my grandmother when she died when I was 13. So she is my mother, to me.

Hey Maureen! I just wanted to say I think this is a beautiful idea! I think everyone there who knew your Grandmom (Mom) would really be touched!! I too think it would be sweet to dance with your sis. My Mother, Sister and I are extremely close. At both my Sister's wedding and my Mother's wedding (she just got remarried in 11/07), we all three danced to in my Daughter's Eyes. We loved doing that together. Everyone thought it was sweet and appropriate, because they know our story! Anyways, I think it would be lovely!

I think you should do it! It may be an emotional moment but I think that he would be honored, and I think that it would be nice to honor your grandma on that day as well!
