Hi- I have not booked my date yet. We are considering a Sat night in November 2011, but looked at the calendar and saw that Thursday June 30, 2011 would be a lot less money per head at a nicer venue, and most of our other vendors would probably be less too.
Is Thursday PM before July 4th weekend (6/30/11) an ok day to have your wedding or is it not appropriate? July 4 is actually on a Monday next year so people don't really have off the Friday before, although it's usually a half day at work or something.
Thanks! Amy

Re: Date question
since my job won't be giving us a day off for that friday, i'd say a thursday wedding is so/so.
i would still go, don't get me wrong ... but i'd probably come late and/or leave early (depending what time it started and ended, obviously).
how about on that friday, or even sunday (since people will most likely have monday off)?

Re: Date question
Generally, Thursday night weddings are becoming more common, especially during peak season. I just went to one a few months back...yeah, Friday was a little rough, but I was no worse off than if I hit up Happy Hour during the workweek.
If you choose to book it (and I say go for it!), just mail out STD's soon so people know about it!

Re: Date question
Totally - there's pros and cons. We couldn't do Friday night because it's a Jewish wedding and Sunday is already booked. But, since it's a holiday weekend we were thinking that it's better than a Sunday because even if you do have to work, Fridays before holiday weekends are generally much more relaxed (or half days).
Argh, not sure how people will take it.

Re: Date question
I can see how a thursday before a holiday weekend can be good because friday may be a little more relaxed work day, but I can also see how since it is a holiday weekend, that friday can be more hectic for some people. I guess you have to look at the majority of your guests and see what may be best for them. Good luck and take your time deciding on the best date for you!

Re: Date question
I would do it. I think the ppl who want to share your day will take the effort to make it to your wedding. I have taken a day off for a Wednesday wedding for a couple i barely knew. Go with whatever works in your budget and liking. Good luck.

Re: Date question
I would say the thursday would be an iffy day...sorry I had searched around and contemplated doing sunday the 3rd because I thought it would be cheaper but it would have been even more because everyone is off the next day a few RH's told me

I totally agree. Just send out your save the dates a little earlier so your family and friends can make the arrangements they need to. Goodluck!

Re: Date question
I would try to go to a thurs wedding but it may be hard for some people to get off of work especially around a holiday weekend. Since alot of other people at their job may already have that time off.
I am actually doing July 3rd and we got a price that is a little more than a Sunday but not as much as a sat. Honestly I think it would probably be a hard date to get now because it was so popular.
Good Luck with whatever you do.

I agree. It would be very difficult for me to go to a Thursday night wedding because I work until 7 or 8pm. It is a little bit more acceptable for someone to leave work at 6pm to go to a 7pm wedding on a Friday. But that's just my situation. If it was someone close, then I would take the time off. If not, I might just show up late to the wedding or not go at all. The difference between Thursday and Sunday to me is that at least for a Sunday wedding, you haven't been working the day before (generally).

Re: Date question
Yeah we're going to go back to focusing on a Sat night :)
The venues were charging less for Thurs night but took out too much!

Re: Date question
We're doing a Sunday.
But I would say do what you want to do. The people that mean the most to you will be there no matter what. Plus, you can give your guests plenty of notice with a save the date so they can take off of work if they want to.
just be careful and negotiate your minimums. You should have to guarantee less people than you would on a weekend.

Re: Date question
I would suck it up and go to the wedding...but that's just me haha
Bottom line is that a Thursday night WILL effect how many guests you get, and that can effect minimums.
Also, keep in mind...that particular week/weekend, 99% of hotels will jack up their prices for 4th of July weekend, so your OOT's will be even further affected.
Sunday's are a great way to get lower prices/minimums...and when they are followed by a Monday holiday...you can't beat that!

Re: Date question
I don't think it's necessarily a bad idea. I know if I were a guest I would personally perfer the Thursday before a holiday weekend to a regular Sunday wedding.

Re: Date question
I don't think it would be a bad idea especially if it helps out your budget, but I would take a look at your guest list and try to figure out how many OOT guests you anticipate. For those guests it would likely mean they'd have to take Thursday and Friday off of work (and likely Wednesday if you do a Rehearsal). However, if most of your guests are local I could see Thursday being a really good option.

Re: Date question
hey, amy! my fiance and i are having our wedding a Thursday right before a holiday...Thursday was sooo much cheaper than Friday or Sunday and that's why we did it...we are paying for most of the wedding ourselves so we had to do what is best for us...so Thursday it was! plus we figured its a Thurs. right before the memorial day holiday so some people may have off the next day but some may not. and honestly, i was a little worried having it Thurs. b/c then i'm afraid some people won't come to the church (our church is at 3 pm) and/or leave reception early... but then i thought about it and the people like your close family and close friends and people in bridal parties (of course) will come to church/not leave reception too early. and having the wedding on thurs. is like having it on friday or sunday b/c people have to go to the wedding after working all day (like a fri wedding) and people have to go to work next day (like a sunday wedding) but they only have to go to work for 1 day instead of the whole week...having it thurs. people just have to slug through 1 day of work and then its the weekend! Just some things for you to think about but that's what we did and how we looked at it! Good luck!
